Eight friends from Houston stayed 3 days at Tampa Palms G&CC for a guys' days-away golf outing. We played TPC&CC our final day.
Golfing was 4-5 star. Very pretty course winding through picturesque setting. Beautiful homes along the course. Lots of varied wildlife -- including hawks and alligators. Course has interesting, well thought out holes. Our crew played it forward from the tees that gave us about a 6000' track. The only down-side was that the greens had been heavily sanded the day before we played. Putting on those greens was a crapshoot, especially later in the day when the greens had been walked on a lot. We were there only for fun and no one seemed particularly bothered. Some of us actually ended up playing 36 holes on the course that day.
The hotel was quite acceptable. The rooms were immense -- some suites, some simply very large rooms. My second floor room over looked the 18th hole and it was a beautiful view. The only downside was that it also overlooked the bar's patio which could be a bit noisy at times.
Our main complaint about the hotel itself was that its bar and restaurant were closed just when we wanted to use them. For example, the bar closed at 3pm on Saturday and 5pm or so on Sunday. Kind of crazy, we thought, for a hotel. The upside was that the bartender was quite happy to serve us beers while he was cleaning up, so we didn't have to go thirsty. The restaurant was open for our final night in town. The food was quite good, service was friendly and attentive.
I'd recommend Tampa Palms for golfing. For accommodation, it was a good value (with our ClubCorp memberships). Just be cognizant of the bar/restaurant hours before making dinner plans.
