“Nice enough, courteous staff”
Reviewed 31 January 2012

This is a nice hotel; and the staff is courteous, although not overly friendly. Nice room, comfy bed and pillows. One bad thing -- maids begin banging and clanging around in the hallway before 7 AM. Be sure to put out the "do not disturb" sign if you don't want them knocking on your door! As mentioned by other reviewers, the mini fridge prices are ridiculous. Be sure you don't remove something just to read the label -- you're charged the minute something is picked up. The toiletries are average to cheap. While the hotel was okay, I'm glad I didn't pay full price (had a discount). This appears to be an average business hotel trying to be a luxury hotel.

Room Tip: The room we were in seemed noisy, but I can't speak for any others.

My stay at this hotel overall was fine, the hotel is nice, and in a great location in Tampa. However, as mentioned in previous reviews, the mini-fridge was a bone of contention. First, I was charged $50 at checkout for alledeged mini-fridge pruchases. (I did not touch anything in the fridge or the bottled water in the room.) The front desk was very understanding and credited my account.

Three days later, a mysterious $12 showed up on my credit card from the Intercontinental. I called immediately and again, they tried to charge me for supposedly opening the bottled water in the room. I did not have to push to hard for the accounting dept. to credit my account for the $12. What is most irritating about this hotel is had I not been vigilent, the hotel would have upcharged me $62.

I will not recommend this hotel to my friends.

we stayed at the intercontinental for one night before a cruise out of tampa. the hotel is very nicely appointed with ultra modern decor. the staff was very friendly and helpful, from the bus driver to the front desk clerk. the location is very convenient if you don't have a car...you can walk across the street to the mall or walgreens, or walk to the next corner and you'll find a starbucks and panera. we ate dinner at shula's steakhouse on premises. it was very good; i highly recommend it. all in all, a very positive experience.

This hotel has serious Hydro Mechanical issues! We were relocated three times in two days due to different noises, smells and finally a flood! The entrance to our room was surrounded by loud blower fans to keep the carpets dry, as well as caution signs yet management didn't bother addressing the issue. When the situation went from bad to worse the hotel manager sent us a breakfast voucher, as if theis made up for the two days of Substandard accomidations and service.

This was a one night stay for a meeting with a professional group. Close proximity to the airport was a real plus. Check in was easy. Room was nice. Great bed and shower. Meeting was held in the hotel. Room was a great set-up, with microphones around the tables. Continental breakfast was good. Lunch was fantastic. Wrap sandwiches, fruit, salad, and delicious tomato basil soup. Excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. Transportation was provided from and to airport and was reliable. And free wifi was a real bonus.

I have stayed at the Intercontinental in Tampa three times for business. The location is good, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the room service is typical. What prevents this hotel from getting a higher rating from me is the noise level. Every time I have stayed here I have been placed in a room near the elevators despite my requests to be far from them. And every time it seems a group of people choose to congregate in that area. It's very loud and seems to occur at night so it can definitely interrupt sleep. I highly recommend ensuring you get a room far from the elevators. Furthermore, each room overlooks an atrium - this can add to the noise level as people often congregate or pass through that area into offices in the adjoining building.
Some of the good things about this hotel are it's comfortable beds, close proximity to decent restaurants in the mall across the street, and a great business center. When I go to Tampa I often travel all throughout the area so the location of the Intercontinental is central with good access to major interstates. As I mention, it is a nice place to stay but the noise levels really do deter me from wanting to stay there in the future. I prefer the Marriott at the airport instead - it is also in a great location, has a great fitness center, comfortable rooms and is always very quiet.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room far from the elevators

The public areas of this hotel were nice and the restaurant service was friendly. The bed was really great and they had high quality linens but the rooms were small and during the morning hours there was little hot water for the shower. I took another traveler's advice and asked for a room away from the elevators and even so, I heard them run all night. I wouldn't go back again.
