“Fabulous day trip !”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

My wife and family had a great time here ! It truly brought back memories of our trip to Greece in 2013. A sponge fisherman had just returned with a boatload of sponges and we had a nice conversation with him. The dock area is nicely landscaped and good for picture taking. There are also 2 large wall murals worth capturing on film. If you are in the mood take a boat cruise . They are a good value here. The town has lots of good restaurants and a FANTASTIC bakery . It was quite hot so bring a brimmed hat and plenty of water. There are also lots of souvenir shops so you can buy a pretty big sponge for about $15.Don't buy at the first shop where you can park though. They were more expensive. They did offer a short film that was very interesting and free which kind of made up for the higher prices. Be smart and get the best of both worlds !

“Love the history, the people, and the scenery”

Everything! The Greek-run restaurants, various and sundry shoppes, tour vessels, sight-seeing, clothing shoppes, etc. we have spent several vacation days in Tarpon Springs over the last six years, and we still love coming here.

“Free To Look; Or Go On A Sponge Tour!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

Well worth it to spend a day at the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks. First of all, you can take a boat ride for a few dollars, and see how sponges are harvested from the waters. You can also walk throughout the town, and see the variety of shops nearby.

Most of the places sell similar items. Soaps, shells, and sponges. I personally like the Goat's Milk soap, but the Olive Oil soap is pretty good too. Plenty of different scents to choose from too.

We usually will grab a cigar, take a walk around the town, visit the shops, and of course have some Greek food. I have other reviews on Tripadvisor regarding a couple of restaurants. Been to a few other restaurants, but it has been a few years since then. After about 4 or 5 hours, you'll be exhausted. We are, and then we head back to the hotel! So have fun, and enjoy your day in Tarpon Springs!

Last but not least. Free parking is difficult to find, if not impossible. There may some free parking a couple blocks away, on the other side of Pinellas (Alt. 19). We usually pay the $2 or $3 instead. There's also bathrooms available in a variety of places.

“A bit of Greece in the USA”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

The quaint shops and locally harvested natural sea sponges at reasonable prices was a welcome respite from the summer heat. Most stores carried the same items and alot of it "kitchy" knick nacks made in China. I did purchase some lovely handmade soaps and several sponges for gifts. We ate at a terrific and authentic place on the main street-good prices and GREAT food. "MYKONOS" The people were very pleasant and helpful. Drive into the town for better parking prices-we stopped at the first place and paid $5 if we would have driven a half a block more it was only $2.
