“Great updates so far, just needs a little more”
Reviewed 25 July 2011

We had read really positive reviews about the new updates and decided to stay in a one bedroom suite. The pictures online made the one bedroom suite look much bigger than it actually was, but it was still a decent size. It included an eat-in living room with a loveseat (was expecting a couch at least) and kitchenette, bedroom (nice updates), closet, and bathroom. The kitchenette included a stovetop, small oven, sink, cupboards, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and a really good sized fridge.

TVs in the place were box tvs, not flatscreens, but they worked fine. The location on the beach is great. Less than a mile to John's Pass and about 10 min from Tropicana Field. Pool area is good, water was nice and clean. The room was clean. Managers were nice and helpful.

Negatives:
-No shaded tables/chairs in the pool area. The only umbrellas were outside the pool area.
-Walls were paper thin. We could here just normal conversation from the rooms to either side and had to be cautious about how loudly we talked for fear of bothering them.
-Windows were paper thin. We could hear cars, horns, people, and anything else all night long because the windows were so old and thin. They NEED to upgrade to double paned windows for soundpoofing.
-Shower head was only 5 ft high. This seems to be a persistent problem in the Treasure Island area. We've run into this a few times. Owners need to adjust this problem.
-It is pet friendly and while that's good for some people, those without animals must deal with the sounds of barking through the thin walls and windows.

Overall, we would stay again, but would think twice about it because the windows and walls are so thin it made us a little uncomfortable about just even talking at a normal tone after 9pm. Traffic and barking dogs made the stay a little less comfortable.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms that face the beach on the very end, ask for those! Othewise you have a an...

I was so pleased, and I'm a critic. I wish every place had such commodating staff. The updates are nice, especially the modernized bedrooms. I hope the kitchens are next on the update list. The rooms, grounds, and pool were very clean and the rates were very excellent. I'm looking forward to going again soon.

I keep coming back to the Algiers because Whitney runs a tight ship. The place is always clean, affordable (usually $59 by myself) and Whitney (not sure of her last name) makes you feel at home.

It has one of the great walks to Treasure Island beach immediately out back of the motels, across a paved path for walkers and bikes, and right onto the beach. Beautiful during the day and at night.

The area is fairly quiet as there are no beachfront bars right there or on the street. Shopping, gas, and everything else is close by and they actually give you reliable, polite information over the phone. So many other motels along here are downright scary they're so dirty but this is always good. Great view, clean and reliable. It can get a lot better but it can be a whole lot worse.
