The Delacado is small and home-like. My husband and I stayed in room #5, poolside. The room has a kitchenette filled with appliances, cookware, and dishes. There is a sitting/dining room, and the bedroom and bath are seperated by a pocket door. There are two double beds in the bedroom, and a daybed with a trundle in the sitting room. Everything was spotless, and the rooms were very comfortable with lots of drawer space.

The AC was not on until we checked in, so it took a little while for the room to cool (after awhile the temperature was fine - not ice cold, but fine).

There are gardens throuought the property ,and they are well manicured with nice touches such as meandering stone walkways and small, tucked away seating areas. The dock and beach area are also well kept and have nice views.

Overall we found the Delacado to be quiet, comfortable, and very clean. We would definitely stay there again.

We were somewhat leary about staying here after reading the poor reviews, however, we had a wonderful time. We found everything to be spotless, a friendly and welcoming owner/staff, a nice pool and pretty garden setting, nice views, cool A/C, comfortable bedding. The biggest drawback was a small shower/bathroom which was a slight inconvenience. The "rules" we received were all standard and I cannot stress enough how accomodating the owners were. In fact, they let us have a late checkout, at no charge, since there was not anyone booked for the following day. I would recommend a bicycle for enjoying the small, quaint old cottages along narrow streets. The beach is directly across the block and the dock was available for fishing. This is "old florida" and if you're are expecting luxury - this is not the place for you. It is a small, simple inn with basic accomodations that are well maintained. The hotel is well situated to enjoy walks on the beach, early morning swim, a great book poolside or any relaxing activity. A beach/party restaurant is located with walking/riding distance and there is a small childrens park at the beach and not much else. We will stay here again to enjoy an economical stay at the beach.

During our Stay at the Delacado in August there were several things that went wrong. The first day we were there the owners were telling us what we could and could not do. But the wife would say one thing and the husband would say another. The overall stay was a good time for me, but that is because I had family and friends to spend it with. The rooms were very dirty. Don't even think about taking off your flip flops because within a few steps your feet are BLACK! The smaller rooms seemed to have great air conditioning but the larger rooms were very hot during the day. Another "Rule" they have is to turn off your A/C when gone for more than an hour. That would be fine if the A/C cooled down the room fast enough when you came in from a hot day on the beach. Although it has a great dock and is close to local hangouts, I would suggest finding another hotel before you take a chance with The Delacado.

Unfortunately, our experience at The Delacado this year was terrible. The motel is family-owned and the owners made us feel as though we were imposing on their home. They feel they can party as late and as loudly as they want. However, break one of their "rules," and they will treat you with rudeness and rancor. No hospitality here.

Should you consider The Delacado, you should request a copy of their rules (I'm sure they would be happy to oblige). Just a few examples: Pool closes at 9 pm; no more than 5 guests in the pool at one time; if you have guests, they are allowed to visit, but are not allowed in the pool; if you lose your room key, be prepared to be charged $100.00; dishes are only as clean as the last guests left them (but if you leave dirty dishes, you will be charged at least $10.00. The motel advertises free Internet access, but, since the service belongs to the family, you will most probably be denied access (try sucking up....it might work, but I don't guarantee it).

Most air conditioners work....very poorly. Be prepared to toss and turn all night in the heat. Bedding is mediocre, at best. Bring your own towels and pillows.

Although a great value, and a great location...think again.

We stayed at this property at the beginning of August 2006. The place is very nice on the outside. Heated pool, great location, tropical landscaping, inexpensive. However, once the owners get your money and check you in, watch out. Imagine paying to stay at a place and then feeling like you are imposing on someone for being there. There are so many rules of what "not" to do it is crazy. We were treated rudely by the staff and owners. We overheard them talking about how they could keep our money and kick us out anytime they wanted. Not a place to relax and have fun at all. Especially for a family with children.
If you do decide to take a chance on The Delacado, make sure to bring your own pillow and bath towel. Also wash all dishes before you use them as the person who stayed in that room before you were responsible for washing them before they left ($10 charge if they don't). Don't expect towel changes or maid, service, either.
