What a find & we're not even from the area!
We were getting a late start for dinner & beginning to run out of restaurants to dine @ with the exception of fast food. No thanks! A short twenty minute drive south on I95 landed us in West Palm Beach, FL & home to many good eateries but we had our sights set on Havana.
The inside dining room was vibrant with activity from both customers & staff. We had to get back to our hotel making a sit down dinner a little longer than we wanted to spend. No problem. Havana has an extensive walk-up window menu right on the corner of Forest Hill Blvd. & Dixie Hwy. & it's open 24/7. After studying the menu board & asking questions about certain items, we decided on their giant Cuban meatballs, meat empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, & "Flan de Caramelo" for desert. The giant meatballs were made with spices & just enough binder to hold them together while being deep-fried golden brown & delicious. The empanadas were stuffed with a spicy meat & vegetable filling in a triangular shaped pastry shell, & closed all the way around. The classic "Sandwich Cubano" consisted of ham, pork and Swiss cheese, steamed and hot-pressed to perfection on Cuban bread. Topped with pickles and mustard upon request. These were the best Cuban sandwiches we've ever had. It was a meal in itself & a great bargain for less than $6. The Flan de Caramelo was a creamy homemade caramel custard drizzled with a rich caramel syrup.
I'm glad we found Havana. It was a bit of a drive from where we were but well worth it. The food was outstanding with a natural freshness about it. The ladies were very helpful & understanding. They answered all our questions while giving us an education on Cuban Cuisine. I can't wait to revisit Havana again & this time enjoy our meal in the main dining room.
