“Wonderful weekend”
Reviewed 10 September 2009

We spent a wonderful weekend at the now Palm beach hibiscus this past weekend and wished we could have stayed longer. Pat and Randy were gracious hosts and available for anything we needed. We stayed in the Rosemary suite which was great. Loved the jacuzzi tub. Chef Leilani is so sweet and an awesome chef. We had the best filet that we have ever eaten and all the other food was just as wonderful. Leilani is truly a asset to this B and B. The bartender Keith is very accomodating and the atmosphere at the bar is really fun. It's definately a locals bar which is the best kind. Everything is within walking distance with Clematis st and city place a few blocks away. We will definately be back soon......

I had my wedding and ceremony here this July and could not have asked for a more magical evening. Everything was put together just as I had dreamed. I never once had to worry about any details. Everyone there treated us as if we were family, and it showed on our special day with the care and attention that was given to us, our family and friends. Words cannot express how much they have done for me and my Husband and we look forward to spending our 1st year anniversary there and hopefully many more!

This is my third visit to Hibiscus House Downtown in WPB, Florida and I am sure to be back again. I love this delightful B&B which is full of charm and taste, from the well appointed rooms to fabulous bar area and the beautiful gardens. The food is incredible and service and friendliness is unsurpassed. You are in the middle of WPB but you feel like you are in a garden oasis in the middle of the countryside. I felt welcomed and pampered as soon as I walked in the door.

It is a 1 minute walk to exciting City Place which is full of great shops/restaurants with entertainment and live music in the plaza. You can never be bored here. Clematis which is another lively area with lots of restaurants and entertainment is just steps. I like the free trolley cars which give you a quick free tour of the area.

The breakfast part of the B&B is more a "feast" than a breakfast. Make sure you save time and room so that you can sit back and relax and enjoy the food and the spectacle. The presentation of the food is just as wonderful as the food itself. The bar is a fun and entertaining place in the evening - many nights I have been serenaded by the sounds of the excellent Karoke....these are serious and talented singers!

If you are in West Palm Beach or nearby come over and meet Missy and the gang. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful time... I come to visit from St. Croix in the US VIrgin Islands and although it is a very nice/quiet/beautiful place. it is a small island and sometimes it is just too quiet. I need to get off the island and do some shopping and have some great food / fun. That's why I always come to Hibiscus House Downtown B&B in WPB.

This was the first B&B we have ever stayed in and we loved it! I had originally planned the stay at the Hibiscus House Downtown for my husband's birthday as a romantic weekend away. When a family member passed away, we had to delay our trip at the last minute. Missy (owner) was very understanding and allowed us to pick another weekend to come visit. When we arrived we were greeted by name and treated as if we were already friends. Everyone was so nice and friendly and welcoming.

We stayed in the Rosemary room which was wonderful with the Jacuzzi tub. It was a beautiful and spacious room.

If you have pets, this place is extremely pet friendly. We were thrilled that we were able to bring our dog with us.

We stayed two nights and the breakfast was absolutely delicious both mornings. The chef is fantastic!!! She prepares lunch and dinner as well. We would have eaten lunch and dinner there too if we hadn't already made plans elsewhere.

The B&B has an outside bar and cocktail area. Each person gets a free drink for each night they are staying. The bartender and regulars are extremely friendly and we had a great time talking with all of them. There was a rather large crowd there both nights, but we could not hear any of the noise from our room.

The courtyard is absolutely gorgeous. It is an oasis in the middle of downtown. It was so lush and green with seating for you to sit and enjoy the beauty.

City Place (shopping, dining, and some entertainment) and Clematis Street (nightlife) are both within easy walking distance. There is also a free trolley that stops right outside the place for additional convenience.

Hibiscus House Downtown is only a 2 hour drive for us, so we look forward to returning again soon. It was such a beautiful and friendly place. We would highly recommend this place to all.

Let’s call a spade a spade. This is no 5-star or 4-star B&B, but it is an okay 3-star one.

First, the good news. Incredible downtown location. Lovely garden setting. Beautiful old house with wide veranda, airy living room, and backyard terrace. Very nice staff. Looks good on the surface, right?

Now the not-so-good news: Furnishings in need of a major overhaul – worn out mattress, flattened pillows and comforter, dirty cushions, clock radio that doesn’t tell time, tv remote that doesn’t work, missing hooks and hangers. What a shame because the bones are there but it needs TLC. Forget sleep in this place, whether due to noise from the trains that run throughout the night (3 blocks away) or the guests in the next room or the guests downstairs or the guests in the backyard… well, you get the idea. I already commented on the bed, but the second B in “B&B” isn’t so great either. Uneven service, hit-and-miss food. The staff tried so hard, but it was very inconsistent. I almost wished they had just thrown out cereal, toast, yoghurt and fruit on the table and let us help ourselves.

I wouldn’t have judged Hibiscus House so severely but the prices they charge aren’t cheap. My expectations were not fulfilled.

Hibiscus has the potential to return to its former glory if management were willing to make some changes. Until then, I’ll stay at a large hotel the next time because the prices are similar and I’m pretty sure I won’t be disturbed by train whistles in the middle of the night!

Anyone looking for a place to stay in West Palm Beach, you absolutely have to go to Hibiscus House Downtown. I felt at home immediately and can't wait to go back. From the wonderful rooms to the delicious breakfast, not to mention the most beautiful outdoor bar surrounded by incredible exotic plants, you won't need to leave the property. If you want to do some shopping, look no further, because just a short walk down the street you'll find Macy's, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Lane Bryant, Victoria's Secret ......the list goes on. Wonderful restaurants as well. Enjoy!

We visited West Palm for a winter weekend getaway and chose Hibiscus House Downtown from a host of hotels and B&B. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Since we were in just for the weekend, we didn't rent a car. We were able to walk to City Place and the hopping Clematis Street restaurants. We stayed in the Palm Room and might choose a different room next time due to it's proximity to the bar. It was the last room available so we considered ourselves lucky!! This is a great place to stay!
