Walk through the double doors and enter a large lobby. Check in is easy. Ride the elevator up to the second floor where you're greeted by parakeets, cockatiels, a grandfather clock, a cozy sitting area, and large breakfast area. From there are two wings, east and west. We stayed in room 220/222. Each room had a full size bed, comfortable chair (not a barber's chair because that wasn't something I wanted in my room) and a tiny little tv. Large windows that let in plenty of sunshine once the blinds were opened. The view from the window wasn't anything but another building; looking down, a rather unkempt parking lot. Our room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the towels were nice and fluffy, the plumbing worked fine. Everything was great. The atmosphere is casual, not stuffy, and the owners were all very professional and cordial. Breakfast begins a 7am, where you can order grits, bacon, sausage, pancakes, etc from the menu and it's ready in 5 minutes. Bagels and toast are already waiting along with fruits and cereals. Tea/coffee and snacks are available 24/7. We were able to go to both the train museum and historical museum along with walking the downtown area. Scoops ice cream was great and so was the BBQ place across the street. It felt very secure knowing that without a key no one could come up to the second floor. Somethings I noted to myself, that weren't a problem for me, but could be for others so I will mention them: The 1st floor is probably 14 feet tall, so the wooden stairs are a bit more than just going up one flight. During the day, the owners will shuttle you in the elevator if you call them and ask, but late at night, you're on your own to get upstairs or down. I thought it smelled wonderful everywhere because they use glade plug ins abundantly. If you have sensitivities to perfumes, you might be bothered. Each room only had one chair, and the bed is rather tall, I would have liked 2 chairs in each room, and I'm sure I could have called to ask them to bring another one, but it wasn't a big deal for the one night we stayed. There were no screens on the windows, but it was cool enough we didn't need it opened. The tv is small, maybe 12". There is no DVD combo just a few cable channels. I didn't come to watch tv so I wasn't bothered by it, but I don't think there were aux or usb inputs. You're better off if you want to watch movies, just bringing your laptop. They will tell you at check-in that they don't enter your room, so if you need anything to just call. This means no bed turn down or little candies at night. I highly recommend staying at the hotel. We enjoyed having breakfast with the other guests, and all that the downtown offered. It was nice to see as they were starting to clean the rooms, bottles of bleach. In my mind bleach means clean.
