Many of the Mexican restaurants in northeastern Georgia only serve "gringa" Mexican food, such as tacos with a hard shell, burritos stuffed with ground beef, and taco salad in a fried tortilla bowl. Braselton's Monterrey Mexican Restaurant does have that fare on the menu, but a few pages in, I found a few items which were more authentic, including tortas with various fillings. I chose a steak torta, which also contained tomatoes, lettuce, and sliced avocado, with a bit of cheese. The sandwich was accompanied by french fries. My friend ordered the taco salad, which seemed to be mostly meat and cheese, but she liked it quite a lot.
The location on Hwy 211 is convenient, with ample parking, and the dining room is large, with traditional decor.
The service was just as good as the sandwich, and both meals were a good value. If they only served gorditas....
