Awesome place and soooo close to all the places downtown and also the river walk and the convention center. But, beware the train that runs right down the side do the hotel during the night and in the wee hours of the morning. Better to ask for a room in the other side of the hotel cuz it does not run down the track silently!!!!!

Room Tip: On the side opposite the train tracks.

Thank you for visiting with us at our "Historic Marriott Hotel" recently! We are located in the center of the downtown area surrounded by Columbus State University Classroom Buildings, our Chattahoochee RiverWalk and many exciting venues and special event sites! We do have a Train that runs along one side of our building and right across the Street crossing the "Chattahoochee River"!! Upon your next visit with us, please enjoy staying on the Tower Side of our Marriott Hotel as it over looks our "Historic Home District"!

The Marriott Downtown is my first choice when traveling to Fort Benning. It is an old industrial building that they renovated into a hotel. The location is perfect. It is close enough to post without all the distractions. There are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. There is also a few college bars within walking distance. Nice place!

Our Columbus RiverWalk is beautiful and we are so glad you enjoyed our downtown venues and special attractions! With have the CSU University locations downtown - yes, we do have a number of "College Entertainment Areas" and our downtown is busy "year round"!

As the only (and probably best) higher-end hotel in Downtown Columbus, the Marriott has an enviable location: right near the river walk and downtown restaurants, and still only about 20 minutes away from Ft. Benning. That said, they could stand to update the guest rooms, which have dingy walls and tired furniture. The housekeeper only left us one hand towel (?) and three pillows for a king bed, and it took about an hour at bedtime for the additional pillows to arrive. The worst aspect of this hotel, however, is the lack of soundproofing between guest rooms. While one cannot expect to never hear any noise from an adjoining guest room, we felt that this situation was the worst we had encountered in a major hotel and was below Marriott's standards. We heard every bed spring creak, sigh/moan of ecstasy, and word of pillow talk from the couple in the room next to us.

We stayed in the "old" section of the hotel facing the infamous train tracks. The room was great. It was clean, well appointed, and plenty large. The exposed beams, old brick walls and decor made it something different from the usual hotel room. The only minor ding could be the TV was on the small side. The lobby was very nice, decent work out facilities and the pool area was good. Regarding the front desk staff, I had interaction with 5 different people during my stay. 4 were exceptionally good and one was grouchy and appeared to be annoyed to be interacting with guests.

Back to the train, the whistle woke my wife one night at around 3 but the sound of the train moving put her right back to sleep. I, being a sound sleeper, never heard a train.

The food at the attached Houlihan's was ok. We went there for 1 lunch, 1 dinner and a few drinks one night. Everything was incredibly average with the exception of the wait staff. They were either very good or very bad depending upon who you had.

The location was great with a lot of food and drink within walking distance. The area felt very safe even late at night.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper and might have issues falling back to sleep after being woken at 3am...

If you are planning an event in Columbus, I would totally recommend getting in touch with Kristie. She and the staff of the Marriott worked long and hard with several of our committee members over the span of about 6 months for our 30th class reunion. They paid great attention to the details and even threw in a few extra's that we did not expect. We look forward to returning to the Marriott whenever we visit Columbus area.

The hotel rooms themselves are updated with furniture and bedding. It is an old hotel so there are tiny little issues with a crack in the ceiling or walls.

The handicap access for the main area needs to be updated a bit. The ramp was too steep for coming down. The restroom doors need to be larger and also the sinks need to be reachable.

Location great for wanting to be near the river walk and also Broadway where all the bars and restaurants are. Everything is within walking distance. We were here for a 2 night weekend stay. Hotel was very crowded because of several events (Triathlon, a big wedding and also a large class reunion) Kind of awkward at times because the reunion dinner-cocktails was setup in the lobby and also right next to the elevators. You had to walk around all the people and tables just to get to your room, and the elevators were so slow, you had to stand near all the reunion guests just to wait and get to your room. Beds in room were great, bathrooms were clean. You could just see where allot of corners were cut and signs that upgrades were necessary. Many open areas had leaks from the rain, walls and ceiling plaster were cracking etc..... The water pressure in the showers was very low. The pool was pretty disgusting and needs to be resurfaced. They should also have an outdoor shower to minimize the layer of suntan oil and dirt that was floating on the surface, The pool was very old and needs significant upgrades. The hotel restaurant and coffee bar were great. Overall service was good. We could hear every word/arguments from our very loud neighbors. Very Old AC units in rooms, we had to change rooms because we could not get the temperature down enough to cool off. This could be a great hotel........ upgrade elevators, Pool and AC and it will be.

Room Tip: South side room will be cooler because the day sun does not effect as much.

Great staff, but when all's said and done... a Marriott is a Marriott is a Marriott. The decor was really rather unexciting, but the bed was as comfortable as in every other Marriott, which of course is what you should expect.
