“Nasty!”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 via mobile

I came to the lodge knowing it was simple and to expect no extras. I did expect a clean room, however. Our room had not been cleaned in a while...hair on the sheets and matted hair next to the shower, just to name a few. Give me simple but give me clean. Also, be advised that the mess of a buffet they serve in the restaurant is expensive (22.00 each for lunch), and was also nasty and poorly cooked. Ants found in my tea.

We booked cabin 9 so we would have some time before my 23year old son started the Appalachian Trail. The cabin was basic and clean and the staff at the lodge was more than accommodating. The desk staff was great and Rick(h) was great at breakfast. The dinner buffet was terrible but there really is no where else to go. We tried and tried to get a fire going in the fireplace at the cabin but the wood would not catch. The lodge gave us a credit for the wood. All in all, I would go again. The cabin had a great screened in porch!

Room Tip: The cabins are a great place to stay. Be prepared to cook your own meals as the lodge food is not th...

Had the greatest time. Views are beautiful. I was there with our church group. The staff was excellent. Stephanie was our room attendant she did a great job on servicing our room. Front desk staff was very nice. We cannot wait to return next year. Thank you to all the staff at Amicalola for making our stay GREAT!

We went for a church women's retreat for 3 days in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. Every room looks out onto a beautiful view of the mountain range. The hike to the magnificent water falls is close to the lodge and has a staircase that follows the falls all the way down and back up, if you are up for a strenuous hike. But you don't have to do all that to view the falls. At the lodge, there is a great stone porch with lots of Adirondack chairs that is a great place to sit and meditate or read a good book. The buffet was good and had a wide variety of food choices for every meal - it was not the same thing every time. The entire staff was extremely helpful and courteous. We plan to go back again next year! I hear they are up for a huge renovation this year, so I'm anxious to see how they can improve it.

Do not expect a Marriott or Hilton. This is in the middle of nowhere, isolated, quiet, with great mountain views. Friendly staff. Simple food buffet in only restaurant. Not a restaurant. More like a cafeteria. I went there to go hiking so the simplicity and old furnishings did not bother me. Not a honeymooner paradise but a back to nature type place to relax with a book or watching the sunset. Clean enough. Will return.

Rooms are outdated! Hotel is POORLY managed. As a matter of fact I NEVER saw a manager. They keep the hotel like a SAUNA! No simple way to get a cold drink or cup of coffee! Plumbing in room sink did not work well. Staff is very nice. The views are amazing, but we will not be back.

My wife and I just completed a 3 night stay at the lodge and loved it! I had concerns prior to arrival about some of the things I read online. In our experience, they were unfounded. The room, lobby, restaurant, etc., were all very clean. Yes it has a little age to it, but the lodge, itself, was neat and clean. The staff could not have been friendlier.

We loved spending time in the lobby just enjoying the view. If you enjoy photography, like I do, it's an amazing place. I took some of my favorite photos during this visit. The waterfalls are something else!

The food at the restaurant was very good. It did, however, take longer than it should have to arrive at our table. It did not bother us, because we were there to get away for a few days and relax. We were in no hurry. This is a problem that does need addressing, though.

I think when you stay here, you have to understand where you are. This is not a 5 star hotel. It's a lodge in the woods and you have to plan accordingly. There is no food (other than the restaurant), gas, or other amenities close by, but that's o.k. We knew this going in.

Overall, we were very pleased with Amicalola Falls Lodge. A return trip is definitely in the plans!
