“Great place to stay.”
Reviewed 31 August 2010

We took off for a quick overnight trip and when we called there was one room left! The views were gorgeous! We waited til day 2 to walk down the 604 steps to the bottom of the falls but it was worth it. Be aware there is no bathroom at the bottom so you have to walk on a bit further 1/2 mile or so to the visitor center to use the facilities.

The room was comfortable but not as up to date as the exterior and common areas of the hotel. The prime rib buffet was nice and $19.99 a person. The tables near the windows did get a bit warm when the sun was going down. Definitely a nice place to stop off for a day or two.

We stayed at the Amicalola Lodge for one night before heading out to the Lynn Foote Hike Inn early the next morning. Upon arrival I was impressed by the friendly staff took care of our check in information. We took our key and promptly headed to our room. The room was very nice! The view of the mountains from the hotel room window was breath taking. I had dinner at the restaurant inside the Lodge and the food was amazing. Don’t be fooled by the buffet style restaurant. The food is great. Going to the Lynn Foote Hike Inn was the main reason for the trip but to be honest when I departed to hike the 5.5 miles to the Hike Inn I missed the Lodge. I’ll definitely be back soon.

We stayed at Amicalola Lodge based on a recommendation from our friends following a visit to Georgia for a family reunion. We were pleasantly surprised as this hotel sits on top of a mountain and from the restaurant you can see for miles over the tops of mountains.

The rooms were traditional hotel rooms, but clean. The food was country-style buffet and it was also very good. Our waiter was very professional had a great personality and kept us laughing through the entire meal. Similarly, we had full breakfast included in the cost of our room -- and the service for the breakfast meal was impeccable.

If you are not familiar with the area, the falls and walking trails are fantastic. There is a deer park across from the park (no one there), and the nearby Kangaroo farm is worth a visit.

Again, we were pleasantly surprised.

State Park lodges have become an affordable and reasonable entree to the scenery of rural America...but sadly seem to favour haunte country rather than haute cuisine. Amicalola is just up the road from my home, a road that leaps up steeply to take you to the lodge at the top of the Falls. Expect much tougher walking than you might anticipate, and no...this old traveller did not attempt the precipitous 600+ step climb alongside the Falls. Even the trails are tough on a flatlander. But the lodgings are adequate for the price, the staff are fantastically friendly and the wifi is about as spasmodic as my breathing after tackling the walking trails. The buffet food at the restaurant??? Well if you had come straight from a backpacking hike it might seem OK but it was pretty poor stuff. One fails to understand why country folks cook country food so badly. I am a great fan of good country fare but the choice here was limited and the quality such that even breathtaking views across the hazy hills could not quite make the meal worth it. Overall a commendable effort but one would love to see this magnificent setting offset with adequate if simple food.

We stayed two nights in June and really enjoyed it. The Lodge is located above the waterfalls (although you can't see them from the Lodge). Beautiful views of the valley and mountains. Peaceful, quiet and relaxing. You can view the falls from three levels by car, or if you are fit, you can climb the trails and steps all the way to the top. The hotel room was neat and clean. Not fancy, but nice. All of the staff was extremely nice. The only negative was the food at the Lodge restuarant. It's a buffett, it's very generic and very bland. Not bad, just bland. This was our first time at a Georgia State Park Lodge, and based on this visit we will do it again.

I've stayed at lodges in other state parks in several states, and this has to be one of the nicest ones I've seen. Beautiful setting in an absolute gem of a scenic park, and the lodge is in really good condition. The rooms are quiet and comfortable (if not exactly loaded with amenities), and there's a good view from most windows onto very nice woods. There are also loads of hiking trails around it, ranging from an easy 1/4 mile walk on blacktop all the way up to the beginning of the Appalachian Trail itself. You also get a terrific breakfast in the dining room included with your room payment.

My husband and I took a 2 day, 1 night, "get-out-of-the-house and away from it all" trip last weekend. We stayed at the Amicalola Falls Lodge. Being somewhat off-season, the park felt somewhat secluded, but we loved this as we do not especially like the crowds. We hiked up to the falls, edged with ice and beautiful. We contemplated going into Dawsonville to eat dinner but stayed at the lodge and ate at the restaurant . We were seated at a window table and watched the sun go down over the mountains. It was absolutely beautiful! We watched a family of deer graze below us on the lawn. The food and service were good. The next morning, we had the complimentary breakfast and sat at the same window table. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I would recommend this park and lodge to anyone who just wants to get away for awhile. The "Winterlogical" room rate was only $69 and was more than worth it for the peace and quiet it afforded. This is definitely not the place for those who want to stay "in the middle of everything" with crowds, entertainment, etc., but it was perfect for us.
