“Peaceful and Serene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014

My girlfriend and I took another couple with us to stay here for a short Saturday to Wednesday trip. I know that the Winter is this area's slow season, but I have to say that we had the most amazing time in Sky Valley. The environment is extremely peaceful, the people are so friendly, and there are lots of amenities on site. The golf course is in immaculate shape and the indoor hot tub was phenomenal. We drove a short 35 minutes or so over to Sapphire Valley, NC to go skiing/snow boarding. On the way we stopped in Highlands, NC which is a small town right on the other side of the mountain from Sky Valley with GREAT views along to way.

On Monday of our trip, we decided to hike along one of the trails that is actually on the property. It starts at the base of a beautiful waterfall and follows a very nice creek/river (Mud Creek) for about a mile or so, and then back up to the waterfall. While on the trail, I proposed to my girlfriend which was essentially just icing on the cake.

We had very little cell phone and wifi service, which was actually kind of nice to be separated from the technological and social media society we have become. The units are said to be "out-dated", but we felt like they provided the exact atmosphere we were looking for. It gives off a rustic feel of being at "Grandmas House", with more modern appliances, showers, faucets, etc.

VERY IMPRESSED overall, and can not wait to return.

“1970's throwback!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

We stayed in a one bedroom condo for a week and were surprised by the décor! This was absolutely not updated since the 1970's when these units were built - for a now defunct ski operation. Paneled walls, early American style furniture and a microwave that only had a timer type dial!! One the good side - the units were clean and had the kitchen stocked with everything needed to spend a week. Internet is only available at the check-in building (free wifi) and when the office is closed you can use your pass key to access the gym area if you don't want to sit in your car to check your email. Cell phone coverage is non-existant here. Once you are down the mt to Dillard or Clayton, GA you will have 4G again.

We enjoyed hiking many trails in the area, saw lots of waterfalls, fall foliage color in late Oct when we visited. There is a golf course, tennis courts, indoor and an outdoor hot tub and outdoor pool. The Great Smoky Mtn park isn't too far to drive for a day and we also spend time mining for gemstones in North Carolina. (the resort is on the Georgia/North Carolina border).

Make sure to attend the information meeting. NO timeshare sales - a local woman tells about things to do and see in the area. She also provides maps and lots of ideas of what to see and do. The continental breakfast was a joke - coffee and granola bars cut in half!

If you are staying here as a base for exploring the area it is fine. If you are looking for a resort with activities and things to do....don't bother.

“Good for you if you like snow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

Ok, so dad and 2 kids wanted to go, I do not care much for snow, but even with that in mind, I had fun. The kids did not want to stop. Great place with lots to do if you want to sky, otherwise you are stuck on the cafeteria/restaurant. I little fire place there will not be bad!

“Restful and homey”

We've been going to Sky Valley for 24 years and still enjoy the peace and quiet plus the beauty of the mountains. It's just another piece of the north GA mountains that we find so beautiful.

“Dinner at the Country Club”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2013

We enjoyed dinner at the Sky Valley Country Club recently. The restaurant is open to the public and worth the time for an evening out. There were 25 of us in our party and the service was excellent. The view of the mountains all around and the open fairways of the golf course is an added benefit. I had the salmon stuffed with crab meat and a three cheese cream sauce. It was perfectly prepared and the sauce delightful. Others in the group had the New York strip and said it was tender and full of flavor. I will certainly return and recommend it to any one in the area or travelling through.
