“Wonderful getaway - even for just one night”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Nine of our family members went to this property when some other plans had to be cancelled. Disappointment turned into pure joy from the moment we checked in. We had an early check-in which gave us the entire day to take advantage of the great activities for everyone. The children loved the pool, the lake, the playground, water activities, movies and more. The staff was wonderful and service outstanding. The late check out also gave us another full day. We felt like we had been gone for a week when it was only 3 nights. Food was very good. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We had a lakeview which was nice but not necessary.

Green Features: They were as green as they could be. It was up to the guests to make it work.

Beautiful hotel located on the shore of Lake Oconee, near Greenville Georgia.
Service was amazing and I have never stayed at a hotel where everyone on staff knows your name.
When you pull up to the main entrance (BTW, valet parking only) the first very friendly person to greet you asks your name. I'm sure it gets transmitted to the front desk and beyond because wherever we went on the property (except Starbucks) we were greeted by name. A nice touch.
Our room was on the side of the hotel opposite the lake but , for us, it was not a problem.
It was nice to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the fresh air in the evening when it cooled down.
The beds were great and the air conditioning was so quiet you didn't know it was running unlike some other hotels where it is quiet loud.
"Team Turndown" my name for the house keepers that came to do turndown service, were a special delight. Super polite and friendly, they came in knowing your name and in seconds prepped the room for the evenings we were there.
Please note that this is a resort and most of the guests were families with young children including infants so paying attention to restaurant seating is a good idea if you prefer a quieter meal. There are plenty of activities for children.
There are five golf courses basically surrounding the hotel.
We don't golf so I cannot comment on them.
And of course there is the lake which has swimming and boating.
At the hotel beach, boats and jet skis are available for renting.
It's a 2800 mile round trip drive for us to get there so it's unlikely we will get back any time soon but we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying there if you get the chance.

Room Tip: Try for a room facing the lake for the view. The quieter rooms are on the other side of the hotel.

Green Features: The usual, keep your towels for an extra day or throw on floor for fresh towels daily.

Our daughter's wedding was here in December, 2013, and what a wonderful weekend it was! She chose the Lodge because she wanted a barn wedding in a country setting, and their 200-year-old Sandy Creek Barn was perfect. We were showered with attention for 5 days, at every restaurant, spa and activity. The little touches such as flowers and/or wine in our rooms (daily), constant contact from the wedding planner and the bell staff, assistance in setting up floral arrangements and decorations -- anything I asked for, I got, and the staff is extremely courteous and professional; they knew our names from Day 1 too. The food at our reception was magnificent, the custom wedding cakes were spectacular, and we heard from so many friends how delicious everything was.
This is quite an expensive place, but for a special event we felt it was worth it so that everyone would have an amazing weekend, and we weren't disappointed.
While the Lodge is mainly geared toward golfers, we also enjoyed swimming and skeet shooting. I would love to return in the summer to enjoy the lake and infinity pool.

This will be the first time a hotel has earned 5 stars from me. It's such a unique property with beautiful grounds, great variety of activities, and the friendliest, most attentive staff at a hotel I have ever encountered.

Driving onto the property we saw deer and the beautiful lake. Once we checked in we were pleased to find out we had been upgraded to a lakeview room as platinum elite Marriott members. We were also given free Internet access.

There was so much to do. Bikes came in all different sizes. There was one with a baby carrier on the back and bikes with training wheels for our 4 year old son. There was a neat kiddie train that drove around the resort and tons of water activities from fishing, swimming, paddle boats, canoes, jet skis, and large varieties of boats. The Infiniti pool was amazing, but it definitely is not heated...there were hammocks and swings and a playground too! There was so much to do! We have to come back because we just didn't have enough time to do it all!

One day it rained so the Ritz set up a cinema and movie screen and streamed different movies throughout the day. They served popcorn and lemonade. They also opened up the indoor pool to the kids so everyone could still swim. And they had life vests that fit my kids perfectly. Bonus!

What really stuck out to us though and earned that extra star was the service. My 2 year old daughter woke up screaming in pain because her molars were coming in. Of course this would happen the one time we forgot the IB Profen! We called the front desk and the bell man offered to run to the pharmacy 15 minutes away to get her some. We didn't take him up on the offer but that offer was extremely nice and much appreciated. Of course other staff at the hotel smiled and were courteous to us and often asked if we needed anything. We can't wait to come back and stay a bit longer next time!

We have alwyas considered trygin this property & finally took the leap a few weeks back. Our family stayed for aweek in a Club Level Suite. The Suite was huge, queen size pull out couch & daybed in living area. Ours was at the end of a long hallway on 5th Floor (for Club), but exceptionally quiet with great view of the lake and horizon.

Club Lounge was very large in comparison to other properties, with several balconies facing lake and grounds. Perfect to keep an eye on your kids at Smores pit or on swings. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Lunch was the best presentation, in my opinion ....

Ate at all 3 restaurants on property and enjoyed them all. Steakhouse was pricey and pretty standard in food choices - although special dessert sent by Chef was fun! Loved sitting at Georgias in bathing suits (its really hot) or getting served at the pool.

Enjoyed the Lake and "beach" area - quieter than the pool. Rode jet skis and rented pontooon boat, boating staff very accomodatign & helpful. MUST DO is the segway tour with David as your guide ... we all loved this oart of our trip & would do again.

Spa was nice, had a massage ... has what you need, but smaller footprint than many resorts.
Indoor pool at spa are nice option when it rains.

Tons for kids to do and families to enjoy together. perfect for rest, relaxation and a slower pace.

I had such high hopes for this Ritz, the location on lake Oconee was absolutely perfect.Sadly our first time staying here was probably our last. The level of service from the staff was not what I have grown to expect from our stays at the Ritz Carltons in Florida.Dont get me wrong, some of the hotel staff were amazing...but we did have multiple experiences during our 4 day stay where the high level of service that is expected from the Ritz was lacking to say the least. Every person working in the club lounge was amazing, wish the rest of the staff was on that level.Aside from the service, there were multiple occasions when WR spotted something that was in dire need of repair. The pool table in the bar had the leather that lines one of the corner pockets just hanging off the pool table. They had a baby grande piano that was completely scared up.The wall paper in the mens restroom at Gabys by the lake was peeling off the wall. All things that you wouldn't expect to see at a Ritz.Aside from that, they are beautiful chiminias lining the lake which we enquired about and were informed cost 50$ to have someone light. Im sorry, but if im spending $400 for a room I don't want to be nickel and dimed or charged an excessive amount to light a fire... the location was indeed amazing but as for the rest I could take it or leave it

Dear Nathan S,

Thank you for your thoughtful comments, we appreciate all of the feedback, but especially where there is area for improvement. All of the specific deficiencies that you outlined have been corrected, with the exception of the baby grand piano which is scheduled for repair next month.

While I'm delighted to hear of your positive comments about our club level ladies, I am concerned as to the areas where you felt the service standards weren't up to par. I would be very appreciative that if you felt so inclined, you would do me the great favor of contacting me at the resort for some additional feedback?

Again I appreciate your comments and hope that we might have another opportunity to earn your business.

Best regards,

Ralph Vick

The Ritz Carlton is a very nice hotel on beautiful grounds adjacent to Lake Oconee. This would clearly be a very good place for a family or group vacation or event, although I was simply there for a business trip. The wi if signal was strong, room service was quick and the food very good, and the level of service was high. I was pleased with my choice of hotel.
