We stayed a week at Villas by the Sea. We did enjoy our stay but it is a very quiet area and there is not much to do unless you are a bike rider, a golfer or can just enjoy relaxing. Our villa was on the ground floor, which is preferable so you don't have to carry your suitcases up a flight of steps. The restaurant that is on the grounds is good. Meals are reasonably priced and we ate there 3 times, mainly because your choice of restaurants is limited on the island. My only complaint about the villa was the bed and mattress on the bed. This villa is advertised as a queen size bed. It is NOT. It is more like a double bed. When I questioned the front desk about the size, she said it was a "hotel queen"....Whatever that means. Also the mattress was so soft that I could not sleep on the bed. I had to sleep on the pull out couch in the living room which actually was firmer and larger than the bedroom mattress. I did complain and supposedly they will order a new mattress. You can not walk the beach during high tide, which they do advertise. However, the beach never dries out so you really can't put a towel down and sunbathe. There is a fitness room and a laundry room on the grounds and that was very convenient. I'm not sure I would return to Jekyll Island as a vacation destination since the weather was still a little chilly the end of February and inconsistent. Also, there is not much to do there.

Room Tip: Unless you want to carry all your suitcases up a large flight of steps, choose a ground floor unit if you can. I also preferred the rooms that were closer to the beach vs. rooms by the road.

This was our first stay at Villas by the Sea and we were very pleased. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and smelled fresh. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. There is no beach at this location when the tide is in, but there is sandy space behind the rocks to sun and relax if you desire. The wood walkways, gazebo, and pool area are very nice. The restaraunt was also very good and had a very friendly atmosphere and was very reasonably priced. The only problem we had was our A/C did not work when we first arrived, but we called the front desk and maintenance was at our door within minutes. Within 45 minutes our A/C was working. Upon our departure we were given a discount ticket for our next visit and were advised we are now preferred guests. This was a very nice gesture and we will definitely be back.

Nice mini suite with all the needed amenities for a weekend stay! The staff was a bit clueless on dining recommendations but spoke to other guests to get their experiences and suggestions. Enjoyed my stay, had a nice fitness room and cafe, we will return.

I believe this was our 4th year at the "Villas" for New Year's Eve golf and fun. This year we were 7 couples, some in one bedroom villas and a few in 2 bedroom villas. (other years were as many as 17 couples) We had an ocean view from our 2nd floor bedroom balcony and an easy walk to the boardwalk and beach. (the steps to the beach are pretty scary at high tide!) The villa was clean and well equipped and handled 14 nicely for drinks and fun. Hats off to Ryan Merritt again! You're the best as is your staff. We finally ate at the Driftwood Restaurant and had a great meal. Great deal with a good selection of $10.00 bottle of wine to go with dinner. For some reason we were always there on Sunday evening and they were closed. So glad we stayed on property for dinner. Happy New Year! We'll be back!

Room Tip: Each villa is individually owned so its tough to request a villa with a king bed. Most are very nicely decorated.

We have stayed at the Villas now twice. We have been more than happy each time. This last time we stayed over Thanksgiving and had the whole family with us. Daughter with her husband and 2 year old, Army Son and wife and 2 year old who were home first time in 4 years, and other son, and of course wife and small dog. The staff was great. The beach access is wonderful as they provide a boardwalk when the tide is in and a area behind the rocks for walks. We will stay there in the future as we go to Jekyll 2 or 3 times a year.
