Our 3 night stay at Jekyll Island Club in late Sept. was the most wonderful escape for us. Our period styled room was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were more than accommodating, seeing to our every request, the buffet breakfast was delicious, the grounds were gorgeous. The only downside was the food options in and around the club were a little on the pricey side so plan for that. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful island and surrounding historical areas and took the trolley tour. We just loved, loved, loved our visit.

When we visited last year, we were both taken by the charm and history of this area. While the history and architecture are fascinating, we had a smaller room that was dimly lit ,with a bathroom that while large, could use some more up to date fixtures. The atmosphere is what this hotel is all about, and after two visits, maybe we just need a change in atmosphere.

This grand hotel is so interesting and full of charm and history. Also known as the millionaires club the island has many old homes and buildings to explore. You can walk around the hotel grounds or rent a bicycle and ride all over the island. Also available through the concierge is a a tour of the wetlands sponsored by the University of Georgia. A stay for two or three nights will give you time to explore this unique island and hotel. In April the weather was perfect and the sunsets were awesome.

The Jekyll Island Hotel is beautiful and historic - definitely worth a visit and tour. The hotel itself is comfortable; however, the bathrooms are small and plain and the a/c vent was filthy near the ceiling. Our outside porch was way too hot to enjoy and was also very plain and not comfortable. Most of the staff were rather reserved and a little stand-off-ish EXCEPT for LAUREN in the Grand Dining Room and ASHLEY at the Pool Bar. (she makes excellent chicken salad sandwiches and mixed drinks and is extremely helpful and friendly - she lives locally on the Island and grew up there.) The Dining Room itself was GRAND and Beautiful - BEST breakfast buffet I have EVER had! ALSO had high tea (Lauren was very sweet) and that was some of the best tea sandwiches and scones and desserts we have ever had also! KUDOS to the chefs and sous chefs. (THEY made this a very good rating!)

Room Tip: I would like to have stayed in the Tower or Crane Cottage - try those out!

This is a place we return to time and time again. We first visited in 2004 and have come back once or twice a year since then. We even got married there in 2007. Excellent service by people we have grown use to seeing year after year, outstanding food, and wonderful rooms both in the Club House and the cottages. We attended the Shrimp and Grits Festival this year for the first time and it was great fun with great food. The feel of the club seems timeless and the day to day stress of life seems to drift away with each passing hour that we are there. We can not wait until our next visit.

Room Tip: Riverview suites in San Souci are great.

If you like history you will love Jekyll Island Hotel. Each stay has been a great experience, however if you plan to eat in the grand dinning room no shorts are allowed which we did not know, but they have a "tourist room" you can eat in which is right off the grand dinning room and it has a better view.
