“Beautiful Old Hotel- the Best in Georgia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Had another wonderful summer stay in the Club House. Have been coming here since I was little and the Club House and surrounding property just keeps improving. The beach pavilion is a quick shuttle bus ride away - but it's more fun to use the hotel bicycles and ride to the beach and explore the rest of the island by bike. The pool makes for a nice break - and it's HUGE, and the bar staff and grill chef are really on point. Everyone working here was super polite and helpful, from the concierge to the valet.
The rooms are great - maybe a little 90s Designing Women-ish...but when in Rome. Slept great. Didn't hear a peep from anyone else staying on our hall, so the walls may be older but they must not be thin.
The mini bar prices were totally reasonable, which was a nice surprise, as was the room rate itself. Bike rentals on the other hand seemed a little bit high but worth it I guess?
Love the book store with all the cats nearby, though all the most interesting old books are outside on the $1 shelf.
Dinner at the Crane Cottage was pretty good for the most part. Jekyll hasn't really figured out the dining sitch yet, but also who cares because the burgers by the pool are pretty perfect and everything at least looks pretty.
If you go in June, be prepared for one million weddings and at least four conventions. People seemed especially chatty, which was nice.
Yes, a Westin is opening up right on the beach - and if you like boring slapdash hgtv cookie cutter motels, have at it. But the Jekyll Club is clearly the cooler option - on Jekyll and in all of Georgia.

There for a conference in June. Simply a beautiful, well preserved historic resort. We were in the Sans Sucuci cottage. No elevator service in this building, but a elegant stair case and landings at each floor! You appreciate the beauty of the building. The suites were spacious and beautiful as well. We had a river facing balcony to enjoy the sunset each evening. The staff was very helpful. JUST A BEAUTIFUL PLACE! Highly recommend it. And I hope to return very soon!

Jekyll Island is NOT commercialized (I hope it stay that way), like St. Simons island. This Hotel is the crown gem of the island. With your room there is complimentary Valet, Ferry and Croquet (must sign up, suggested to wear all "white"?). LOVED the pool area. GREAT spot for biking - they have rentals or bring your own. The surrounding beaches are not the crazy big waves loud noisy types ~ but rather the quiet, relaxing almost bay like beaches...very serene. To bike all the way around the island is 14 miles. From the Hotel to the North Loop "Driftwood Beach" is 4 miles and very close to the campground BTW. Is is obvious this hotel was been renovated many times, but let's face it - it's buildings were built before 1900! There is so much charm and beauty here.

On the property there are at least 4 places to eat, whether that be at the pier, their cafe, their restaurant or grand restaurant. The cafe is the most reasonably priced.
For us, believe it or not we enjoyed hitting DQ just 400m from the hotel south on the main road that splits the island at the largest gas station on the island. (We rode 10 miles to get there LOL). The Staff at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel was outstanding and helpful.

On the negative side: unfortunately, towels at the pool was quite difficult to acquire. None available at the pool, and the bar area told us to wait on the bellman would bring a bunch out soon. That was 1hr 10 min later. Small stuff. However in the Sans Souci Cottage two big things happened...1. a very large cockroach climbed out of our bathroom tub faucet while I was about to take a bath. (yes, it was awful) and 2. upon returning to our room the door was open (as in not physically closed) it was been cleaned but no one was around. Very concerning.
Now, on the reasonable side the Hotel is old as dirt and I'm sure there are cockroaches there will never be able to get all of them, but the size of this thing 1 1/2" and the location found would have been a gamechanger had the same thing happened to my wife. As for the door being open - I don't think there is much crime there and the doors can be hard to open as they use a conventual key, but then again ANYONE could have just walk into the cottage (no lock on front doors and right into our room with door ajar was concerning. We left our room around 11am and returned 6:30 pm. I wonder how long our room was left unsecured after housekeeping made our bed/clean the bathroom? The last thing worth noting is that there was full bag of trash that sat in the hall way for over a day in front of the conference room...just unsightly. No, we never saw the cleaning staff the 3 days/nights we were there.
Bottomline, nice romantic getaway with a few areas of improvements...

Room Tip: Bring a comfortable bike to ride on, Visit Drift Wood Beach, sign up for Crochet early as there are...

If you have never been to the Jekyll Historic Hotel it is well worth the trip for the day or better still overnight. Rather then do St. Simons, Amelia Island or Savannah, do Jekyll if you want a beautiful laid back historic resort . Yes there is the pool, the beach, dolphin tours, kayaking;'but what makes this place unique is the beauty of the grounds and buildings along with its history. The rooms are average and no two are alike, the food is good; but pricey and the service is excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony, pool side room, or a room in Crane

My husband was there for a conference from June 8 to June 12. We were in the annex. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely helpful, and friendly! Did anything they could to help. We had a king bed. Room was average size. Loved the old wood, and old windows. Part of the history along with creaky uneven floors that had carpet over them. Part of the charm. The ac worked very well , some reviewers said it didn't. The fridge was cold and the stocked bar had some late night sweets and beer, wine in it. Watched tv while he was in meetings. The bathroom was large. It was spotless! Some folks said bath was just filthy! They should of contacted the desk or left. The room was also spotless. And totally quiet. I think our room faced the back . We never heard a person in hallway or in the room next to us. If you want a new contemporary resort, have fun, but the history of Jekyll and the rich folks who made our country is so much nicer than a new room. If walls could talk. We did a carriage ride at night and learned a whole lot of things about the hotel and homes. We will go again next year if there is a conference. We loved this place! We needed relaxing . We got it. People were fantastic, check in was a breeze, they brought our bags up. We ate at the hotel most every night. I did room service for breakfast for two days and food was SO good! The shops in the hotel and in the other locations were so nice. The grounds were gorgeous, and very immaculate. Each day I saw people out there working. This is such a special place. Put the technology down , slow down, and enjoy everything! Such a special beautiful place! My favorite island ! We went on to Disney from there, we should of done Disney first to get our peaceful Jekyll after Disney chaos. Next year we do it that way! Love this hotel! There is lots of stairs but are elevators. You will still have to climb some stairs tho. I was recovering from kneecap replacement .

Room Tip: Make sure you inform them of any special needs.

Beautiful Historic Hotel, the buildings are called historic for a reason. THEY ARE OLD and with old comes charm and character and thin walls. I would say if you are a light sleeper, this could be a problem. The room we were in was a little odd in that there were no bed side tables. The room just wasn't deep enough, however the bathroom was quite large. Otherwise the hotel was fine. Service was exceptional. Great photography options as there are many old buildings and quite a bit of old south history here. There is a pub on the hotel grounds there that can get a bit crowded if more than five are sitting near the bar but there is plenty of outdoor seating. We had dinner at Courtyard at the Crane. This dining option is located inside one of the buildings you can stay at. The service was good and the food was fine. Nothing crazy wonderful but satisfying. Breakfast the next morning was in the dining room and we chose to order from the menu instead of the eating from the buffet. Pretty sure some of the things on our plate were taken from buffet because the sausages were cold. I would give breakfast an "OK". In the end this was not our kind of place but I would think many would enjoy it. Biking options are FANTASTIC. You can bike all over the island, through the marsh and out and along the beach - just lovely.
Another thing to note. In our building where we stayed (Cherokee) the first floor has a common area and fireplace. As we were leaving to go to breakfast we saw a man with the newspaper spread out and and a room service tray and I thought that was a great idea. Have room service delivered downstairs and enjoy the paper and spread out. He looked very content and comfortable! We were there before the season started so it was not crowded at all. I would expect that this is a place where families come year after year, generation after generation. It has that feel to it.
