We almost didn't come based on the negative reviews that were posted on this site, however i'm glad we decided to come. Everybody posted about the unfriendly staff, where did they stay? We opted for the primitive campsite just based on the online map. When we got there we didn't like the site we had chosen (small and cramped, more for families with kids). We went back to the office and the girls at the desk took the time to circle all of the open camp site and let us go walk the grounds and find exactly what we wanted ( more secluded). After accommodating us with that, we found our air mattress pump was broken, they took us to the tool shed and used an air compressor to pump it up and bring it back to our site for us!!! The restrooms were clean, they were hot, but it was hot outside so what do you expect, your camping, if you want A/C stay at home. Their staff was extremely helpful and friendly, ALL of them including the office. We rented bikes right at the campground, walked all over the north end of the island right from the campground. I would recommend bringing your own firewood though, they do get $8 a bundle. i would highly recommend this place to anybody!!!!!!! You have to remember, everybody has their own opinions, but it's better kept to yourself if your an uptight prude.

My husband, myself, and our two small dogs spent last weekend at the Jekyll Island Campground and had a good enough time that we're already planning to go back the weekend after next. We had a primitive tent site, J7, which I would definitely recommend. Of all the tent sites, it seemed to be the most spacious and private, right across from the bird sanctuary. The only negative I have is that the front-desk/camp store staff were not the friendliest in the world... They weren't mean by any means, but they didn't offer much as far as smiling and/or conversation and/or interest in your existence. Other than that, however, it was a great experience. The campground seemed clean, including the restrooms (they're regular campground restrooms... if you go into it expecting anything high-end, you're setting yourself up for disappointment). The location is within walking distance (15-20 min. walk) or biking distance (5 min.) of the Clam Creek Picnic Area, where the fishing pier is located (a great place to watch gorgeous sunsets over the bridge) and Driftwood Beach, which is gorgeous and a great place to explore with dogs or just sit and read a book.

We traveled over 300 miles to spend 5 miserable days in a black, dusty leaf, mosquito infested campground in a brand new travel trailer. We never spent 5 minutes outside to enjoy the nice aluminum picnic table or to just relax in our chairs. The minute you stepped outside mosquito's would cover your arms and legs and squirrels would threaten you as close as two feet from you. We could not believe what we experienced. On arrival there was only one person at the check-in desk and she did not acknowlege me until she finished what she was doing. Did her job good but was not customer relations friendly at all. We never used the restrooms as they looked questionable. Trash receptacles were not very clean. There was a lot of trash (cans, bottles, styroform plates) around the edge of the campground.
Wi-fi and cable were great and we really used them when at the campground as we had to stay inside. We did enjoy the bike trails and the historic district and the new beach area.
Nothing is mentioned in the revitalization about upgrading the campground. An additional campground on the south end in walking distance of the beach, and not under so many trees, would be great for the more modern day RV. As far as campgrounds go this is the worst one ever since 1981.

I knew ahead of time that the sites were close together but I didn't realize that picnic tables were located inches from other campers drain pipes! Also not happy with the "no clothesline" rule. Between swimming twice a day, showering, and a few rainstorms, we had wet, stinky towels round the clock and no where to dry them other than the pay dryers. One more note is that I think it's tacky to have long term storage sites surrounding the campground, especially when they are given much prettier sites than the campers.
On the plus side the shade trees are wonderful and the campground was suprisingly quiet. If you are a tent camper - the tent sites were beautiful, spacious, private.

We almost didn't stay here becasue of some of the negative reviews of this park.
We are glad we did.
it is a very family friendly park, lots of kids riding bikes. They also go around with a water truck to spray the roads to help keep the dust down.
The park is crowded, but pleasant, and completed shaded with fantastic trees.
My Grand Daughters said they want to go back again..
As far as the park staff being rude.... we saw nothing like that..

The setting is beautiful with large trees. There is a bird sanctuary that is very nice and peaceful with a bench to sit and watch the birds. The sites are roomy compared to Myrtle Beach. The downside to this campground is that there is no playground for the little ones and the bathhouses could be maintained better (3 bars of soap on the floor of the shower for 2 days). We didn't mind driving to the beach and the beaches are not crowded which is a plus. It is very relaxing and I did enjoy our stay overall.
