“Spur of the moment trip”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

Based on a recommendation of a local winery, my wife and I had visited the hotel for drinks and appetizers last year. We found it completely charming and swore to come back for a stay and dinner. We did just that in July and fell in love with the place; a true throw back to times gone by. While the rooms are small and the hotel is not on the lake itself, it is more than compensated by the very friendly staff and the common areas. The food was to die for and the crab cakes the best I have ever had ( I'm 60 so that is some history).....I highly recommend the hotel and be sure to see the nearby marina and waterfalls.

I will preface everything by saying that I have stayed in B&B in this country and abroad so if you haven't, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST!! Do not expect the Marriott or Four Seasons!!! Lake Rabun Hotel is in a beautiful setting, but it is not on the Lake, no air conditioning, no TV, no room service and no hotel dining from Monday through Wed. It is a very beautiful rustic hotel from 1922 that has been renovated but only in the barest of necessities. The rooms are VERY small. The bathrooms are Ok. In some B&B you have to share a bath but not at this hotel. There are ceiling fans and we were there in July and it was very comfortable. In fact, cool at night. There are lots of activities in and around the town and nearby towns; boating, swimming, hiking, antiquing, wine tasting. There are two vineyards nearby. The REAL positive about LRH is the food. They have the most amazing chef and I have never experienced such wonderful food at any restaurant I have been to in a long time. He is listed as one of the top 100 chefs in America. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was relaxing and quiet but on one funny note; if you are looking for a romantic intimate time with your significant other, think twice! The walls are paper thin and everyone in the hotel will hear you!!!!! B&B are not for everyone so be sure you can do without TV, air conditioning, and reliable cell and Internet service (it comes and goes). As a side note, no liquor is allowed to be served in Georgia on Sunday, so if you want alcohol, BYOB! I loved it and hope you will too!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are small. In my opinion, they are all the same. Some may be a few inches bigger!!!!

First, we want to thank you very much for your feed back of the hotel. We always look for ways in which to improve upon the services that we provide for all of our guests. There are, however, a couple of items mentioned that we would like to clarify. First, the hotel does have a central heating and air system, but there are not individual units placed in the rooms. We are so sorry if you were uncomfortable, and we would have been more than happy to adjust the settings on the air-conditioning. The Lake Rabun Hotel prides itself on its excellent customer service, and we are delighted whenever we can go above and beyond for our guests. Second, the restaurant hours are currently Wednesday-Saturday for dinner and Sunday brunch. On Sundays, we do serve alcohol after 12:30. Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you again very soon.

My wife and I spent a couple of days here while we prepared to pick our son up from a local camp. They have a great staff and the restaurant is excellent. Our dinner was amazing but the breakfast will blow you away. Rooms are quaint but don't carry any of the frills of the modern day unless you count electricity. Great place to go and enjoy good food, nice people, and the company you came with.

Let me start with the good parts of the hotel: The food is wonderful and the young lady that manages the hotel had a great personality and was very helpful about things to see and do. Unfortunately there are more bad than good there. The website is so deceptive with its descriptions and pictures. We thought the hotel was on the lake so we rented the room with an excellent view of the lake. We had to stand on our tiptoes to see the lake and the rest of the view was of the parking lot. The hotel is across the street from the lake and access to the lake is not within walking distance because of private property signs everywhere. The rooms are very small, the mattress was lumpy and old, and the bathroom (well that is another story!) If it were not for the nice lady that manages the place, we would have not even stayed one night. We were suppose to stay 2 nights but since it was pouring ran the next day and could not hike or canoe, we left that morning. We hoped they would offer a refund for the second night since we left at 9:30AM but that did not happen. It was our fault for not asking more questions before booking the room but we learned a lesson.

People are friendly. Great homemade cookies and coffee.
The fireplace and Adirondack style is right up my alley.
Enjoy a very nice dinner with wine or walk across the street to Lake Rabun.
This is a great place to enjoy quiet time and read a book.

This is absolutely one of the most rustic, historical, delightful and culinary experiences we have ever encountered. The staff is beyond friendly and attentive to your needs. It may sound strange but we did not mind the small rooms and bathroom, as it encouraged us to spend our time in the various gathering rooms including the tree house deck and around the fireplace with other guests. So if you love the outdoors, boating, hiking, swap meets and country music then this is the place for you. But keep it a secret since they only have eight rooms and one is already reserved for us!

Chef Jamie always prepares the most divine meals. Since we live in the area, my husband & I always go there for special occasions, and have never been disappointed. There's always fresh seafood available, as well as locally grown produce. Recommend it highly!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant celebrated its 90th birthday in 2012. It's the last surviving mountain lodge on a lake in Georgia. Because it has stayed true to the look and the feeling of another, perhaps more peaceful, time, it's been called both a regional and a national treasure. For decades generations have enjoyed the beauty of the lake and mountains. Carefully restored by preservationists in 2008 to maintain its ancestral charm, it features gardens of native plants, rock pillars and walkways, locust log decks, and balconies with views of Lake Rabun and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Lake Rabun is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of North Georgia. ... more   less
