Based on a recommendation of a local winery, my wife and I had visited the hotel for drinks and appetizers last year. We found it completely charming and swore to come back for a stay and dinner. We did just that in July and fell in love with the place; a true throw back to times gone by. While the rooms are small and the hotel is not on the lake itself, it is more than compensated by the very friendly staff and the common areas. The food was to die for and the crab cakes the best I have ever had ( I'm 60 so that is some history).....I highly recommend the hotel and be sure to see the nearby marina and waterfalls.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant celebrated its 90th birthday in 2012. It's the last surviving mountain lodge on a lake in Georgia. Because it has stayed true to the look and the feeling of another, perhaps more peaceful, time, it's been called both a regional and a national treasure. For decades generations have enjoyed the beauty of the lake and mountains. Carefully restored by preservationists in 2008 to maintain its ancestral charm, it features gardens of native plants, rock pillars and walkways, locust log decks, and balconies with views of Lake Rabun and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Lake Rabun is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of North Georgia. ... more less
