This was our second visit to Mak, the first being on our honeymoon in 2008. The first stay was magical including safaris in the Eastern Shores park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi with our own private ranger.
So we took our parents there for this our second trip who were so excited following our glowing reference.
However, disapointed we were to be. This was not the same Mak that we knew and loved. It is still a great place to stay but for anyone thinking of going back following a magical stay circa 2008 I am afriad to say things have changed. The auro seems to have disapered and it has become less exclusive.Gone were the sole atention of a priovate ranger and excusions are now as larger groups and the choice of activities has been restricted.
Unfortunately, I think the real reason Mak is struggling to match its rpevious achievements are that there are other establishments with so much more for you money now. Also with the increase in tourism there is more publicity for the other little gems in the region.More
