“Wonderful Getaway for Both Horse & Non-Horse Lovers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

Spent three fantastic nights at this unique horse resort. Our bed-and-breakfast type accommodations were charmingly furnished, clean, and quiet. Resort staff, especially Jim, and even the other visitors were friendly, down to earth, and genuinely kind. Horses are certainly well cared for, gentle yet responsive, and guests have the option to ride by themselves without a guide. Food is phenomenal and plentiful, catering to many different taste levels. While this was our first time as guests at this ranch, it definitely will not be our last!

What more could one ask for...horses that are very well cared for, cats lying about that want to be petted and a bunch of well behaved dogs..The ranch allows all us adults the ability to be cowgirls and cowboys for the stay..Divine food set out by the owner Inge and her staff and very very nice accomodations. My daughter and I rode twice a day and was pleased with the tempo of the ride(we are the trot/canter bunch) No need to fly to Montana when you have a swell Southern Cross Ranch in our backyard..yes, maam

Southern Cross Ranch provides a great memory maker for the city family or the person with country roots who wants to introduce the family to the ways of farm life. The facility is quaint, clean, with a pool and community dining. Stay more than two nights and you are sure to feel like a part of the ranch.

Be sure to venture into town for some small community shopping.

While we were there we came upon a Civil War Re-enactment, complete with canons. Our daughter will never forget it. History lesson and ranch experience all in one!

Room Tip: If you have a little on, the room with the covered wagon is sure to be a hit. And mom and dad get th...

Stayed at the ranch for two nights in August - one of the highlights of my trip! Everyone was so friendly (especially Jim, thanks for playing British songs on your guitar!) The food was great and it was so relaxing. Didn't want to leave! I only went horse riding once (I'm a beginner) but the man who rode with us - Dave - was so understanding and kept checking whether I was OK. Fantastic place to stay!

We stayed at this wonderful ranch while helping an ill relative. The ranch is beautiful and the staff is beyond wonderful. We used the ranch more as a bed and breakfast due to medical appointments in Athens but did take an opportunity to ride one morning. The staff and horses are amazing, you can tell that all the staff really care about the animals, even the barn cats are sweet. I cannot say enough about Jim, Midge, Inga(the owner) and all the rest. The food was fantastic and we did enjoy a few dinners when possible. We are planning to visit many times more and enjoy the entire experience. If you want a truly relaxing vacation where the staff treats you like family and genuinely cares about you and the quality of your stay, look no further. One walk around the pastures at sunset will have you hooked for a lifetime.

My husband, son, his partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in July. I saw this ranch on the internet and actually built our 3 week holiday in America around it as it looked so beautiful. This is such a lovely place, very relaxing, wonderful rooms, excellent food, a pool and hot tub, mountain bikes and loads and loads of horses. We are not riders but were all catered for by being given lovely placid horses to ride. Enjoyed every minute of our stay and this was in no small part due to Jim who runs the ranch. He entertained us with his wit, introduced us to his Mum and friends and made us feel part of the family rather than just guests. If we were ever in this part of America again we would not hesitate to stay at the Southern Cross again, excellence guaranteed.

Room Tip: We stayed in two Category 3 rooms and had absolutely no complaints. Very spacious and beautifully d...

Honestly, this is more of a Southern Style B&B with a seperate riding stable on site! Both are amazing! The food is just fantastic! The rooms are all different, which is neat, and always clean. most are updated. Since its really a B&B, so there is no fitness center or business office. There are mountain bikes available to guests to ride around, plus a pool and hot tub. There is also an aqua massage avaiable too. There are three sitting areas available, one with a big TV. DVD players are available and there are a host of movies you can "borrow" to watch in your room. Theres a great sun porch too with puzzles to work, and a game room with pool table, shuffle board, table games, and darts. it is a working ranch, so at the stables you can watch the professional trainers work with young horses, and if there are pregnanat mares ready to deliver, you can be added to a "call list" and might even get to see a foal being born!! The first year we went we actually saw two births in the same night!! Pulling into the ranch there are horses running and playing on fields to eithter side of the drive! The first time down that drive I had to stop the car so the kids wouldn't fall out of the windows trying to wave at them! Very Family oriented Ranch, with Southern Style charm, Owned by a neat German lady with a great story of how it all started. The kitchen is staffed with German and hispanic chefs, which makes for some amazing culinary delights at breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! I'm sure I gain 5lbs or more each time we go!! Its become an annual trip for us, and we even got to go 3 times this year!!. There is a campfire at night in the pasture with the horses!! Really neat! some of the horses come up and would like you to share your marshmellows with them!! There are around 200 horses on over 250 acres, with over 6 miles of trails!! However the last time we went we learned about a huge expansion planned which would bring them up to over 20 miles of trails!! Great for an extended weekend trip, although we stay a full week when we go! Its awesome meeting different people who travel there from all around the world!! Everyone rides together in groups with a guide (which I like), or with approval you can go out on your own. All children under 18 must wear a helmet, which I think is a great idea!. It is about a 1 1/2 hr drive from the Atlanta airport. Madison is a quaint little town with a good sized square with all the quirky little shops that are fun to explore! Winter, Spring and Fall are the best times to go as it can get very hot in summer time, and its also very busy in Summer.
