Owner description: The Marietta Museum of History is one of Marietta's unique treasures. The museum is located in the Historic Kennesaw House, a structure built in 1845. Located just steps off the Marietta Square, the museum is a perfect afternoon activity for visitors to take in along with local lunch and shopping.

I love this museum. It may look little on the outside but it holds a lot of artifacts/history. They have a lot of military equipment to see and I especially enjoyed the dollhouse and the creepy hair curlers. It is a must if you love Georgia history. Also, I love how the museum is in a building that used to be a hotel and used during the Civil War. It is not expensive to come here and you can become members if you choose to do so (which we did). The aviation portion of it(which is not at the actual location of the museum) was very interesting too although I wish we could have seen more of the interior of the planes. Overall, an enjoyable experience!

I donate to this museum and it feels good. If you are local, visit and give. Many people in this area
have antique treasures in their attics. Each working persom in this country gets a chance to donate $3,000. each year as a tax write off. Please visit and talk to Mr Cox about your history treasures. IT FEELS GOOD TO DONATE. Mr Cox has done a great job putting this museum together. I give these folks an A for lots of effort.

We visited the Marietta Aviation "Museum" - I put that in quotes b/c in case you have no clue about this place it is not a building but a field with various US Military planes on display. We spent about an hour there. It is free & the volunteer we had the privilege of speaking with was very knowledgeable & friendly. He was a true Top Gun - both a Top Gun pilot & Top Gun instructor. It was really cool to be around someone so passionate about airplanes. You can walk around & look at the planes alone at your own pace. But the volunteers are also on hand to answer any questions you may have. They are also your way in if you want to get into either of the 2 birds that are open to the public. We went into the C-130 & it was super cool - we even got to sit in the pilot & co-pilot's seats. The other one you can go into (but we didn't) was a Huey helicopter. We also found out about the helicopter rides that happen there every 1st Sat. of the month ($40 ea.). They fly from that airfield then over Marietta & to Kennesaw Mtn & back. So we definitely want to go back for that! So overall, would recommend going for sure! And please give these volunteers the respect they deserve. (And if you happen to go on a hot day I bet they'd appreciate a cold bottle of water too! Wish I would have had one on hand today for them!)

If you are interested in the history of Marietta, then this is the place to visit. Nice but not fancy exhibits. Marietta has a lot of history and the museum was used as a hospital during the civil war....so if you are looking for something to do in Marietta, I would recommend it.

We really enjoyed the Andrews Room. It's believed to be the actual room where James Andrews stayed the night before the Great Locomotive Chase. That was back in 1862 when the museum was a hotel. We had some questions about the building and Marietta history, and were introduced to Dan Cox, CEO and founder, who was most helpful and gracious. Well worth the time to visit.
