This is a local Latino store and Restaurant we frequent because it is not a Mexican restaurant. La Carreta is owned and operated by a family from Colombia. They do offer a few Mexican menu items like tacos, tamales and burritos, but the menu is varied and has quite a few Colombian and Central American choices. The Guatemalan tamales are as close to authentic as we have found anywhere (be aware: authentic means you will find bones in your tamales and if you don't like the taste of olives and raisins together, this may not be the dish for you.) The Colombian tamales are very large and very good. The Tostones with Guacamole (not Mexican style and not spicy but very tasty) are fabulous and I am usually satisfied with my portion that and a cup of black bean soup. Their Chicken soup is the best in the area. The prices are very reasonable considering you are getting real food for your money and not prepackaged food products preserved with tons of MSG.
