On a recent visit to this "5" star hotel for a social gathering with friends. Situated overlooking the beautiful Lakes of Killarney this hotel certainly has 5 star views, but the stars stop there. The casual approach by staff certainly lets down the 5 star status of this hotel, among several disappointments during the evening the main issue was the food, 2 people in the party ordered steak and both arrived lukewarm and certainly not cooked as per requested Medium Rare & Medium Well, we can ordered the extra sides or Portobello mushrooms & Saute Potatoes, what was presented was button mushrooms and burnt saute potatoes, ( see the image attached ) along with burnt tomato as a garnish. From observation it seems the staff are local, some lacking skills and forget, a 5 star hotel, that charges customers 5 star prices, equally requires 5 star service, 5 star food, 5 star experience. On previous visits to the hotel for lunch with work colleagues food arrived cool, under cooked, very disappointing.
If you looking for a 5 star experience don't waste your money here. On a positive note the pianist was excellent and the selection of music was enjoyable.

Stayed here with a bunch of girlfriends over the festive season. Great welcome by the amazing staff. We stayed in a beautiful suite overlooking the lake. Food was superb, atmosphere brilliant with a terrific band and DJ, who helped us dance into the early hours… fantastic breakfast and a pamper in the spa finishing up with a hearty lunch. Great interaction with the staff which helped us laugh continuously over our short stay. Looking forward to coming back.

Room Tip: ask for lake view

Excellent hotel, excellent and friendly staff. The breakfast every morning was to die for and my biggest regret is that I didn't eat in the restaurant as we had dining plans for every lunch and dinner. Only a 10-12e to the town centre. Quite simply a superb hotel in an exquisite location with amazing views all around. Will definitely stay here when I'm in Killarney again.

We spent a night here just after Christmas in a family room - adults and two young children. The room was generous in size, accommodating two foldaway beds and had magnificent views over the lakes and the snow covering atop Carauntouhill as the sun rose was spectacular.

Upon arrival we were welcomed and the receptionist led our two girls to the hot chocloate and marshmallows as I completed the formalities. Our dinner reservation was confirmed and in leading us to our room, the receptionist took us on a tour of the facilities. She was engaging and informative and spoke to our children in a big sister fashion, which was endearing and they enjoyed.

Dinner in the Lake Room was enjoyable and the service was genuinely warm and effusive, nothing was any trouble and both management and waiting staff enquired if there was anything we would like on several occasions.

Games to be played in the reception, or books to borrow, everything with a smile and a thoughtful comment.

Breakfast is a sumptuous feast and everything is cooked fresh from scratch, none of those infernal hot buffets, and the old world touches of the tea leaf strainer reminded me of a stay here some 30+ years previously with my own parents. The maitre'd at breakfast was very personable and checked repeatedly if we would need anything else, after we had filled like piggies at the trough!

One insignificant moment summed up this hotel perfectly. Our neighbouring hotel had finished their breakfast, it was past the official breakfast time, but the waitress rather than trying to get them to move along, suggested they might like a latte, or cappucino, and she returned promptly with a smile and the said coffees. A small moment, but a very telling one.

My wife had a very enjoyable 2 hour spa treatment, which she felt relaxed and rejuvenated by, and we both agreed we would have to come back for a longer stay, as it was a breath of genuine relaxation, and we were made to feel at home and treasured.

That is a rare feat in our modern world, but to the management and staff, my sincere thanks, and we look forward to our return visit in 2014.

Had a fantastic time in aghadoe with a gang of girls last weekend. Total luxury all the way. Fabulous rooms, food, spa, but the best by far is the warm welcome and outstanding service from all the wonderful staff. Have stayed there on numerous occasions - can't wait to go back

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly decorated rooms. Junior suites are lovely.
