“Gorgeous Rooms, But Way Too Expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2009

The hotel was industrial-looking on the outside, but very elegant and modern on the inside. We were upgraded to a suite on the 3rd floor and it was fantastic. It was huge, clean, modern, with a nice, flat-screen TV, and huge, spa-bathroom.

The hotel itself had a nice restaurant which was very expensive.

The gym was tiny - with 3 pieces of cardio equipment and nothing more than a set of free weights; hardly the spa gyms one is used to in the U.S. The spa, too, did not cut it, from a U.S. spa-goer's perspective.

The breakfast was good, fresh, but having "free breakfast" when you're paying such a hefty nightly rate doesn't feel like such a boon.

The hotel staff at the front desk were rude, snippy, and unhelpful.

Lastly, there were loud kids everywhere - in the restaurant, in the hallways - - everywhere!

This place is insanely expensive so, unless money is of no moment to you, go elsewhere.

On arrival your first impression is of a very 80s style building but its not the worst. The hotel is beautiful, just so lovely and plush. We were upgraded to a suite as we were on honeymoon, and it was just gorgeous - huge bed, large living room, classy bathroom and the biggest tv ever. We used the pool and the changing area has large selection of lovely Aveda products for clientele to use. The breakfasts were delicious - tasty fish of the day, large selection of breads, cereals and juices. My hubby availed of the cooked breakfast which were hot and tasty. The lady overseeing the breakfast was so helpful and friendly, she couldnt do enough. I think the main reason I loved this hotel was the staff - they were friendly, courteous, informative and helpful. I have stayed in other 5 star hotels were the staff have been snobby eejits, when there is no need to be if the hotel is good. I would recommend this hotel absolutely because its so elegant and is a good choice if you want to spoil yourself and have a truly relaxing time. We are already planning a return visit at Christmas.

Beautiful location, fabulous staff that helps provide an incredible experience, truly wonderful food and gorgeous rooms. AND there’s more, it has one of the best spas I have ever been to with a lovely ambience and a real treat. Fantastic value and the views quite simply have to be seen to be believed!

Fabulous hotel boasting amazing views, attentive staff, and beautiful decor throughout. The spa is an oasis of calm offering first-class treatments and thoughtful touches such as post-treatment tea and fruit in the relaxation area. The food is also delicious. I will definitely return.

This hotel was the one splurge on our trip to Ireland and it was well worth it. The view of the lake from our room was spectacular! The room was modern, large, clean, quiet and very comfortable. The bathroom was large, modern, and had a variety of Aveda bath products. The spa was wonderful too. We stayed 2 nights and I could've easily spent the entire trip here. The location was so beautiful and peaceful yet the hotel is in an excellent location to explore Killarney National Park, the Ring of Kerry, and Dingle Penninsula.

Stayed here once before (on a budget...most basic rate they had!) and we were lucky enough to get upgraded to a suite, which made the whole stay amazing..Knew we probably wouldn't be lucky enough to get the same upgrade this time around! Staff are one of the best things about the hotel, very genuine and not at all stuffy-a real credit to the place. The standard room, however, struck me as being a little bit outdated and in need of some tlc. For the money you'd pay, even at the most basic rate, I'd expect the room to have certain 5star touches. Paint was peeling a bit, telly was small and not a flat-screen, and in general the decor was a bit faded. Used the pool which is lovely, clean and quiet. Still haven't quite been able to afford a treatment in the Spa but even when passing it in the hotel, it seems very tranquil (and always smells good!) We didn't eat dinner there but breakfast was delicious, really good selection and the lady who served us (didn't catch her name, sorry!) was just lovely, so friendly and normal-again, top marks for the staff.Had a few drinks in the bar the night before which were lovely, views as stunning as ever. All in all, I think the decor and a few little interior touches are all that's lacking to bring this hotel up to proper 5star standard. I love staying here and really hope to go back (some day!) and try the spa! To people thinking of staying here, to get your money's worth, if you could stretch to it,I'd consider the suite rates, as the standard rooms aren't as spectacular.

We made a last minute change to our honeymoon itinerary while in Ireland and decided to stay in this hotel. Very happy we made this change!

The staff of the hotel were fabulous! Everyone was so nice. They even opened the pool up for us after it had closed!

The dinner and breakfast we ate at the hotel was great. The food was very fresh and they had a great selection!

The view from the room was amazing! The top floor suite overlooked the beautiful lake and its islands, with the mountains in the background. To top that off, it was partly cloudy with a full moon and the reflection of the clouds and trees on the water. Even better was the glow of the lighted castle standing alone in darkness. It was an amazing thing to see!

Wireless Internet wasn't as good as we would have like to have seen. You pretty much have to use wireless in the public areas. Would have been nice to have wireless in our room.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we come back to that area in the future!
