“fantastic family holiday”
Reviewed 13 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The Cowshed is an enchanting little barn conversion, which has been lovingly done with great imagination and style. Inside,it is like Heidi's little cabin in the mountains. The cottage is spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The owners have used the available space very carefully and it is very well designed. Great base to visit the coast including Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hood's Bay, Sandsend. All lovely places within easy reach. But when the hustle and bustle of these places becomes too much, the Cowshed offers a little retreat. We found ourselves eager to get back, get the kettle on and settle down for a relaxing evening. Great outside area with a bench and a little table, with amazing views over to the sea and the ruins of Whitby abbey, surrounded by farm land. Very comfortable beds, the second bedroom is like a little den up in the eaves, Great for kids. Some very unusual features including the bath which is like a stone trough, and lots of references to its former life as a barn(much of the décor is apparently made from salvaged items found on the land). Lovely place to stay, we returned with some very happy memories. A little haven of peace.

“Amazing place to stay!”
Reviewed 14 April 2016 for a stay in February 2016

My partner and our two little dogs stayed at the Cowshed for a week in February. We arrived late at night to find a beautiful and quirky little cottage, log stove (with enough fuel to warm us up that evening), a hospitality tray and even slippers and dressing gowns! We felt so welcome!
Our dogs loved the area, with a large field to run around in and some very friendly chickens and horses.
You feel like it's very remote and peaceful but actually you're so close to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and a local supermarket, a perfect combination.
Luxurious and rustic - we will definitely be staying again :)

“Wonderful quirky cottage”
Reviewed 12 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

My sister and I have just returned from 3 night stay in this wonderful cottage. Although small, it was packed with everything we could possibly need, including a washing machine and dishwasher.

It was cosy and warm, with comfortable beds and sofa .... just what we needed after a days walking with the dogs. The beds had crisp, brilliant white bedding and everything was very clean.

Helen and Mark, the owners, were lovely and couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.

We could definitely recommend a stay here and we hope to pay another visit before too long.

We stayed here for new year and had a fabulous time. The cottage is beautifully renovated with lots of extra touches and attention to detail. It's really well equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. We had a magical new year there. Big thank you to the owners for the bottle of fizz left in the fridge for the new year celebration x. Would definitely recommend

“A real home from home.”
Reviewed 14 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We chose to stay at the Cowshed for our honeymoon, due to its location and we were not at all disappointed. Wonderful views over Whitby, close to Robin Hoods Bay and a great position to travel along the coast up through North Yorkshire. The cottage is truly amazing and very homely, with everything you need for a well earned chill out. It is quaint and quirky and restored to a great standard using original features and there are lots of items that have been recycled to make unique objects that are usable, such as lamps, light shades and coat hooks. The more you look around the more you are taken aback by the use of items that have been reclaimed from the original cowshed , even the bath and sink.
Lovely fresh linen and towels were provided and we were even given a towel for the dogs.
Gas radiators are installed so the place is more than warm enough, but we did use the log burner which made the room so snug.
Thank you Helen and Mark for making our special holiday a whole lot more special and also for our celebratory bottle of wine. Well done on all your hard work in making The Cowshed such a magical place to stay.

“Imaginative upcycling”
Reviewed 20 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We enjoyed our stay at the Cowshed, especially seeing the clever recycling of so many everyday things. (eg. carpet cleaner to a standard lamp!). It was warm with an efficient heating system, so we didn't need to use the log burner (which was a shame!!) The shower was fantastic with a choice of shower heads, and although I searched for it, (not many hiding spaces) I couldn't find a hair-dryer. Definitely a young persons place, as the stairs were a challenge (but fun) and the soft mattress topper played havoc with our geriatric backs. It would have been nice to have had the grass in front of the window screened, as when sitting at the table we were watched by the folk in the other rental, just a small thing, but worth a mention, and I'm sure Mark will put this right over time. I imagine it would be a perfect holiday with kids, as they would love the stairs, and the facility of a fire pit in the garden next to the BBQ which has views all the way to Whitby Abbey

We had a marvellous Christmas holiday at the Cowshed!! The stunning decor was eclipsed by the personal touches added for festivity. A great location to explore the North York Moors.
