“Enchanting!”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

We were traveling to Florida and I do not like to stay at the Hotels that are offering coupons in the travel books. Great little smart phone helped us locate a hotel with great reviews. We were not disappointed. Lovely, enchanting hotel that is in process of renovations and if you enjoy a little history, you'll love this gem!
Staff was very helpful. Rooms were small but extremely clean.

The family that owns and runs this hotel could not have been more welcoming. My sister and I were given the grand tour and then our choice of room when we arrived. We were made to feel very welcome - both by the staff and by the "locals" who were hanging out in the Tavery, where we chose to enjoy our fried pork chops and mashed potatoes. Yum!

What a treat to be able to look inside the unoccupied rooms (the doors were left open) to see how each is individually decorated with estate sale antiques and family treasures. It was an interesting step back in time, complete with Victorian parlors and special nooks and hideaways.

The restored section of downtown Perry with it's beautiful one-way street lined with quaint shops was an added bonus. We would love to stay here again.

This is a quaint place set in the center of town. If you like the feel of a historic establishment and the customer courtesy of a diplomat, well, then stop by here. I can't even express how much we enjoyed this hotel. Old fashioned with today amenities! The room was small and personal. Out of all the hotels I have stayed at this one will receive my top choice of #1!! The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed from towels to helping with our luggage. Ghost and all, this is a place to stay. Needless to say that the people of Perry, GA are awesome! The dining room meals were great but the service there was a bit on the down side.

Room Tip: There is a motel section of rooms but I do recommend to get the feel of history to stay in the main...

If you have an appreciation for history and southern culture , you will find a lot to love about the New Perry Hotel. Situated so conveniently on the square, it is the ideal place to stay and enjoy the ambiance of small town Georgia. The owners family operates the hotel with a friendly genteel ease that is reminiscent of days before internet and TV. But don't be concerned about being cut off from communications The younger generation of the family have made sure that the hotel has the best WI-FI service I have seen anywhere, including at 5 star international hotels. We stayed in the historic 3-story building. One thing to be aware of is that there is no elevator, so if stairs are a problem, you might want to choose a room at the separate motel-style building at the rear of the property.

I recently attended a weekend class in Perry, and instead of driving back and forth, decided to stay at the New Perry Hotel. The rates are reasonable, and definitely competitive with other local hotels. The experience is absolutely unlike any other hotel I've ever been in. The staff, comprised mostly of the owner's family, are extremely friendly and welcoming. They genuinely make you feel like you're a friend, and a guest in their home. After a long day in class I enjoyed dinner at the in-house restaurant, and a couple drinks in the pub, The Tavery, also located in the building. Dinner was incredible, and the wait staff very friendly and helpful. They also offer a breakfast menu that you can select your breakfast the day before, and the next morning they will have it ready for you at the time you request it. This isn't a continental breakfast either, but a home cooked meal. The hotel bled charm, and I will absolutely be back again.

With that said, there are some areas for other travelers to be aware of. The hotel is very nearly 100 years old, and in some areas you can tell. The stairwells are meant for shorter people. The regular rooms are small by today's standards, but were adequate for my needs. The biggest area of concern was the bathroom, which was downright tiny. The shower doesn't give much room for movement, but has abundant hot water. I saw some larger rooms while I was there, and they had much more space, and were probably more comfortable. The larger rooms also have a larger price, but you will definitely get what you pay for. I want to be clear, these are not complaints, but honest observations. If you can get past these minor concerns, you will likely have a wonderful stay. If not, maybe you ought to look elsewhere. I would recommend the motel next door, which is part of the hotel, but a more modern option (with a swimming pool) for those who can't handle the quirks of the older building.

In my honest opinion, you can stay in a modern motel/hotel anywhere, but this hotel is something special. The quirks are the reason to come.

Room Tip: Try the in-house restaurant and pub. Excellent food, and a wide variety of beer/wine/liquors for tho...

My boyfriend and I decided to try something different, so he found this place. At first glance I was not impressed, however once we checked into our room which was themed the "James Dean" room my perspective changed. The restaurant food was home cooked and the owners were very friendly.... We will definitely visit again.. However one MUST be willing to appreciate its Historic appeal.

As the reviewer of the report immediately before this one says, you have to know and enjoy old, historic places to fully appreciate a stay at the New Perry. The Johnson family is working very hard to redo an old and neglected property and they are making good strides in that direction. Every staff member was pleasant, helpful, and loved to chat about the work they are doing and the plans to continue the revitalizing of this old hotel and restaurant.

We stayed in the back motel section in the James Dean room. While older in style and decor (some items are just old, some actual antiques), it certainly gave us a good night's rest and was very clean. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant and a drink in the Tavery, joining locals and visitors in watching and guessing answers to Teen Jeopardy, won that night by a 13 year old student from our home area.

The drink and beer menu choices were of a wider variety than anticipated in both pub and restaurant. There was a dinner theatre production going on in an adjoining room while we ate, attended by quite a few locals, but it did not disturb the flow of service for the 6 or so couples in the regular dining room. Dinner choices were for mostly for southern comfort food, but tasty and well prepared. The rolls were yummy, the raw veggies as an appetizer unexpected and healthy, and the celery soup delicious. Breakfast is available the next morning by order the night before so that the cook knows how many to expect.

Be sure to check on AARP and AAA discounts, but prices are very reasonable!
