We stayed here on December 15, 2012. We drove down from Atlanta to take our two boys (ages 4 and 7) to Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens. The lodge is really lovely. It was a little chilly to enjoy our balcony but we had a great view of the woods. The property is gorgeous--stacked stone paths, fountains, and an outdoor fire pit. I did not have time to enjoy the spa but would like to do that in the future.
The only downside is that the Ironwood Lounge was not staffed well. We took our boys there for dinner at about 7pm on Saturday. We sat down and after about 20 minutes I got up and hunted around the bar until I could find some menus. After we decided what we wanted, I got up and asked the bar tender to find a waiter who could take our order. Once we actually managed to make contact with the waitstaff, the service was fine. They were just obviously busy and did not have enough wait staff.
On Sunday morning, we had the buffet in the Piedmont Dining Room. It was reasonably priced and the food was very good.More
