We come here all the time probably once a week and normally never have antsy thing negative to say, however after eating our Sunday lunch here today we have to say the service was really poor. We waited between starter and main course 1hour and none of the waiting staff attended to us until we got their attention which we were really surprised with as the service normally is exceptional.
Regardless of new staff , shortage of staff or training I think the service shouldn't be so noticeably different than any other time. Waiting staff should talk to the customers and at least inform of delays with food, we weren't the only table not being served today .
We also asked for a dessert to take away (cheesecake) on arriving at home found dessert still frozen , sorry to write a negative review but feel the owner managers need to know that things are not always so good !!!

Food was very good. I would definitely return again. The restaurant was packed so we sat in the small bar area . The service was good and staff were friendly.

Think this maybe an evening venue as having arrived for light lunch recently staff were more intent on cleaning windows! There is no lunch menu simply an evening menu with no additions apart from a few specials. We waited a long time before asking if there was a problem with the order to be told that we had only been waiting 25 minutes and the waitress said she could show us the tab to prove it!! We had been waiting more than 40 minutes and when the food arrived it was very over priced for the quality. The attitude of the staff was very unpleasant and not what we have experienced on previous visits in the evening.Have crossed this off the lunch time visits list as it would appear that with only 8 people in the place they were rather be cleaning!!

We have just held our daughters First Holy Communion party at The Walter Arms and it was fantastic.
Despite their needing to cater for our party of 24, the food was excellent across each of the three courses, generous portion sizes, hot, delicious and the venue itself was perfect.
The staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and a special mention must go to Laura the manager who organised everything for our booking. Would highly recommend and we would happily hold another occasion there.

Four of us dined here on a Wednesday evening. We had booked in advance but didn't like the table offered in the seperate dining room across the courtyard. The decoration and general ambience is quite poor compared to the main dining room in what was the original pub.

Staff were helpful and managed to squeeze us into the main pub dining area. However, this dining room is quite cramped and the tables are too close together. It was very noisy and it was quite difficult to hear conversations across the table.

We had 2 starters, 4 mains and 4 desserts. All the food was well presented and of good quality apart from my wife's pasta dish that arrived flooded with a gravy or stock rather than a sauce.....very strange looking and not too tasty.

The prices are certainly top end in our experience for a menu that is a cross between chain-pub food and gastro pub fare.

There are many excellent competitive restaurants in the area where you can get great food for less money. I don't think the Walter Arms is sufficiently superior to justify its prices.

Don't think we will be returning again soon.
