This was my second time at Ocean Lodge. My husband and I got married on the penthouse balcony at dusk on November 28th, 2008. Unfortunately, because of our schedules, we could not get back to Ocean Lodge the exact one year anniversary, but we brought our parents with us this time. We had a blast. David's breakfasts in the morning can not be duplicated anywhere else on the island....NEVER go out for breakfast or you are missing a huge perk to this wonderful place. Everything was clean and perfect. I have to say, when my husband and I got married, Dottie made everything absolutely perfect for us. We couldnt have picked a more romantic, quiet place to start the rest of our lives. Really, there is no better. When we came back for our second stay in Oct '09, we arrived and the air conditioning was not working properly in the second bedroom. My husband is an engineer, so if he was having problems with it, I would feel worse for a layman to try and work that thing. After an hour of playing with the remote to the backup airconditioning in the second bedroom, we finally got it cool. It was nearly 85 degrees that day, and air conditioning was a must. There was no ice in the freezer, and when we clicked on the ice maker in the freezer, it gave us about 3 ice cubes an hour, so we had to go down and get ice from the butler constantly during our stay. Also, not that it was a big deal, but the cable was out as well. The young girl that checked us in seemed extremely defensive when we confronted her with all the issues we were having with the air conditioner, the ice and the cable. We like to listen to the music channels in our rooms, it makes the atmosphere even more serene, and since there was a bunch of construction going on the ground floor of the hotel, it helped drown out the noise. The young girl told us she checked our room and got it ready for us, but I dont think she really knew what she was doing like the other butlers because she had a really bad attitude and seemed flustered with all of our issues. Again, everything was so perfect on our first visit, that I am sure we were just really spoiled when our second visit was any shade off from perfect. However, no matter how horrible the young girl was, Stephen and Dottie MORE than made up for. They were helpful, enthusiastic, and overly charming with everything.
The Oceanlodge offers a huge array of personal services that you just do not find elsewhere. The breakfasts, the views, full kitchens, and huge comfortable pillow beds, flat screen tv's in every bedroom.......it is like staying at a luxury spa. The bicycles they offer guests as a service are a nice touch as well, but they really need some maintenance. They are nice bikes but almost all of them have flat tires. The butler has to unlock them for you, so if you get a bike, check the tires while they are there or you will have to go running after the butler again for an air pump!
We will be back again, and I look forward to hopefully seeing the bar open next time!
