Saint Simons Inn by the Lighthouse
Reviewed 1 February 2011

What fun it is to stay in a "condo" hotel where each room has been decorated by the owner of the room. You can view the rooms and pick one that suits your style. Our room was spacious and comfortable....loved having a coffee pot and microwave in the room! You can also get coffee and wonderful cucumber water all day in the lobby......and juice, bagels, etc. in the mornings. Ths is a small Inn with only two floors so the lobby is
small ...but added to the charm of the hotel.
We were in St. Simons to explore, shop and eat. After only a few minutes of walking from the hotel, we were on the main street of town where we found many cute shops and good restaurants.....and another few minutes of walking put us right on the pier overlooking the water. The location of the St. Simons Inn proved to be a huge bonus to having found a small, charming place to stay.

We stayed in Rm. 204 which was beautifuly decorated. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The hotel is within walking distance to restaurants & shopping in the village. The beach is across the street from the hotel & the pier is also within walking distance. Can't wait to go back & stay in another room as I understand each room is decorated differently.

We just stumbled upon this place. What a great find. We had a really neat room, huge bed, hardwood floors, funky decor. We never took our car out of the covered parking, we walked to great restaurants (recommended by the clerk) and strolled to the pier and beach.

Breakfast was a nice continental, the lobby was well stocked with information, and the staff was friendly but not pushy.

And most important to me, it was VERY clean.

We are a family of four, well-traveled, with two young kids....(always like to say that up front to give you an idea of where you're getting your review from)....

Anyhow, we were driving from North Carolina on our way to Disney World and decided to split up our trip this time. We stayed a night there going down and coming back. Both times were very enjoyable! The first night we stayed in room # 107 (Deluxe room)....beautiful! (It is exactly how it is currently shown on their website as of this writing.) I even took pictures of the sink and bathroom because we are remodeling our house and I loved the colors. :-) That room has a pull-out couch our two young kids slept on and we were all still comfortable in that room. Very clean and very neat.... We settled in and went downtown (easy walking distance). What a very cool area! There was a park right near the pier that was lit up at night for the kids (big and little ones) to swing on, etc. There are some BEAUTIFUL old trees down there. (See pics of the first room and trees, etc.) We just sat and watch the ships go by, the sunset, etc. There was a lady leading what I presumed was a 'ghost tour'...very interesting. I loved the whole atmosphere of the place. We ate at Iguana's- delicious! We also went to Barbara Jean's on the way back- WONDERFUL! It was a very pleasant experience!

On the way back, we stayed in a different room and I can't remember the number. Again- very clean and neat...We did have two small issues with that room- there was a smell coming from the bathroom and the shower head didn't work properly...however we didn't discover the shower problem until the next morning. Anyhow, almost as soon as we called them about the bathroom smell, they arrived and fixed the problem and apologized profusely. If I understand correctly, these are individually owned rooms and this one just hadn't been used in a while (but like I said- still very clean so don't worry about that). But like I said- they fixed that problem right away and all was well. My husband was easily able to fix the shower head once it was discovered, but I am sure the staff would have fixed that issue right away if we had called them- it was really a non-issue. I am sure these two things were a fluke because other than that, everything was very nice and everyone was real professional.

Try their water they have out in the lobby...When we were there they had iced cucumber water- DELICIOUS! We did have the breakfast in the lobby and though a bit tight in space for chairs, etc, it was filling. (I think we had bagels and cereal??) If I remember correctly, they had fresh fruit, coffee and a few other things as well.

Staff was very friendly...Hotel is very conviently located...You do have to park underneath in a parking garage, but we drive a very large SUV and still fit nicely. If you do go there, do yourself a favor and allow time to walk around the area. You won't regret it!

We had just planned on going to this place if we head down to Orlando, but now we're actually hoping to make a separate trip just to visit this town and stay at this lovely inn again.

Positives:
- Inn is right in the middle of the village within walking distance to several restaurants and shops.
- Inn is immediately across a quiet street from the lighthouse and the waterfront. There is a large playground and a large, very nice public swimming pool between the inn and the waterfront.
- Inn is very clean, well-kept, staff is friendly and helpful, rooms were well-maintained.

Negatives:
- none really, although the breakfast could have been better. It is essentially a basic continental breakfast. Cold cereals, packaged oatmeal, yogurt, breads and danish, juice, milk, coffee, and tea are on tap. No fresh fruits were offered. I submitted a suggestion that fresh fruits such as bananas, oranges, etc be added to the offerings.

Bed was rather soft, not firm, a decent bed though.

We would return to this inn if our travels bring us to St. Simons Island.

Great spot. We had the penthouse and it was really nice. There was a personal balcony, a large marble shower for two, a living room area with unique modern decor, and a comfortable king size bed. The breakfast is in fact terrible, however, we ate out for breakfast. There were plenty of places to eat in walking distance of the Inn.

If you want to be in the heart of saint simons, this is the place for you; This is a condo/hotel. We stayed in room 217.Nice enough, great bed, and decorated nicely. Small annoyances. Items that needed attention were not fixed. faucet handle and spout very loose; light above commede not working. Mentioned them, but nothing happened. As for the breakfast, forget it. When was the last time you had paper towels for napkins? Terrible presentation; One cereal, one juice, powdered creamer; Ugh!! Better they gave you a coupon for breakfast elsewhere in the village. Hampton Inn here we come.
