“Great early American history sight.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

A small fortified community established by James Oglethorpe in 1736 that served to protect the southern boundary of England's claim to the new Americas. Not much remains of the fort today but the area is rich with Colonial history. The few structures that remain include a portion of the armory that overlooks the Frederica River that was used to control access to the river. This area was the epicenter of conflict for over a hundred years between the British and the Spanish, each seeking to take control of the area. A pivotal battle was fought near here called the Battle of Bloody Marsh.

There is an interpretive center and souvenir/gift shop located at the entrance to the historical sight. A small admission fee is required to enter the sight and there is a small museum in the interpretive center. The self guided tour of the sight takes about an hour or so.

“History Uncovered for sure!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Great place to visit if you like History. The ranger at the desk was very helpful with information. The 20 minute film about the Fort was very informative. I liked that I could do the self guided tour at my own pace and not rushed. The information signs and artifact for different houses/buildings were very good. The price for admission $3.00 for adults and kids 16 and up, great deal! Again, if you like history, this is a must see/visit.

Great place to take a break from the water and get in a little history. Neat theater and fun dress-up and play area for the kids.

“History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Definitely worth the trip to learn about Fort Frederica, it is only $3 and under 16 is free. There is a movie explaining a lot of the history of what you will see when you walk the grounds down to the fort.
