At first you will say, there is nothing here to see. Just building outlines and tabby basements. But the descriptive signs really bring this abandoned town to life. The town was big for the day, and well built. An amazing history lesson.

I love walking around, reading the info boards and thinking about what life used to be like here on the island. It's a shame not more has survived, but it's still worth the look. Good, easy walking. Bugs weren't too bad because there was a breeze. Otherwise it would have been really bad this time of year.

The fort has a very interesting and import history regarding the battle between Spain and England over the possession of Georgia. The battle at Bloody Marsh was the major turning point for this conflict. Unfortunately there is very little other than foundations that remain of the fort but the visit shows how small this fort was in comparison with the 2000 Spanish troops that were intending to attack it.

I'm from the Historic Triangle of Virginia (Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Jamestown) and Have always loved colonial history. Although the museum is small, this has to be one of the best experiences I have ever had! The grounds are beautiful and unlike anything I've ever seen - an expanse of land with original foundation outlines, markers, and ruins - a true glimpse of our country's historic past! My husband, who doesn't care much for history, thoroughly enjoyed his visit here too. We also had the pleasure of seeing a family of deer out among the ruins. History buff or not, please visit this beautiful landmark!

My boys (ages 5 & 10) loved exploring this old Fort. They did a great job marking the different streets and building sites. Beautiful grounds to walk around. Wonderful place to take some photos!
