“A Shining Beacon on St Simons Island”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

I have been visiting St Simons Island since 1980 and I have climbed the lighthouse many times. This month I was able to take my six grand kids to climb the 130 or so steps to the top. As always the view is spectacular. Needless to say the grand kids were impressed. The museum has greatly improved over the years with new, informative exhibits. The price of admission includes admission to the US Coast Guard Museum on east beach a couple miles north of the village. The museum charges a fee - a little pricey for a large family group but still worth it.

“Loved!!!!”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

We all loved this museum and lighthouse. The small museum downstairs was packed with information. Don't let the size fool you! The view from the top was gorgeous and we were there right as a storm rolled through!

“Historic and beautiful!”
Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

I've visited this lighthouse several times, and its history and beauty were what ultimately inspired one of my books. This is a must-see: the ultimate attraction of The Island.

And a tip: the novel 'Lighthouse' by Eugenia Price provides a neat, historically-based background to the light's history.

“Nice bit of history”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

This lighthouse and grounds are lovely and well-kept. I love supporting sites like this that do such a nice job of preserving our history - the painful and ugly as well as the triumphant. I convinced my wife to climb the 129 steps to the top of the lighthouse and we both enjoyed the view on a beautiful summer morning. If you're on the island, you need to see this landmark.

“Not worth the effort.”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

I've been to this light house often in the past decades before all of the renovations made to this sight. Was a neat place back then. Today, there is a small gift shop that is quiet expensive but has quiet a few souvenir items to choose from. Just don't expect any bargain prices. The new building its self is very nice but the fee to tour and climb to the top of the lighthouse is a bit expensive at $12.00 dollars a person. I really love old light houses and have visited them on both coast of America and in Europe but this one was a disappointment. Wish I could say something more positive about the Saint Simon Island light house but really was that disappointed.
