Worth seeing; lots of stairs; parking around lighthouse so don't need to walk from the village. (I can't think of more to say but review must be 50 characters so trying to get there.

This is a fantastic place to take your family for a few hours of entertainment. Climb up to the top and take in the fantastic views then go back inside to the air conditioning and tour the museum and the caretakers quarters.

It was cool to see the residence of the lighthouse keeper and his family. We were told that the lighthouse is not air-conditioned, but we climbed to the top anyway, on a hot day, and the breeze kept things fairly comfortable. We were glad we did it!

Exhibits were very good. The view you can see is great. You have 129 steps to the top with several resting places in between. Seeing how the keepers lived is interesting. Should be something everyone who comes to the island sees.

The Georgia Historical Society had recently built a new building next to the lighthouse and rehabbed the lighthouse keeper's house. They did an excellent job. A short film gives you the brief history of the lighthouses that had been on St. Simons.

The bottom floor of the lighthouse keeper's house shows the history of the island, has artifacts that the lighthouse keeper would use, and various other historical information. The second floor houses replicas of what the bedroom, child's room, kitchen, and living area of the house would look like when it was being used by the lighthouse keeper and his family. Each room has an interactive touch-screen device displaying a picture of the room. All you have to do is touch on a picture of an item in the room and it will tell you it's name, purpose, and sometimes history of the item. This actually held my daughters' attention much more than just reading words on a wall. I thought it was an extremely innovative and interesting aspect of the museum.

The final piece of the museum tour for us was the lighthouse itself. You are able to climb 129 steps to the top. Your reward is a great view of the surrounding area. I think it would have been nice to have a person pointing out some things from this view, or some type of map showing places. Such as this is Jekyll Island.

The nice thing about purchasing a pass to see the lighthouse is you also can see the Maritime Center at Historic Coast Guard Station with the same pass. Furthermore, you don't have to see them both on the same day. We were able to see them on different days using the same pass.

Overall a great history experience.
