Sea Palms Resort & Conference Center
Reviewed 18 June 2014

The staff is excellent and accomodating. The unit was clean, well appointed and was very quiet. The view from the rear was most excellent. The resort is located in a quiet residential/golf environment and was a pleasant surprise. I was very comfortable and will return. Highly reccomended.

This is another older lady of the hospitality industry who needs a make over and according to the management it has begun. This facility sits in a beautiful setting and is a wonderland for golfers...which I am not. I was there for a meeting.

The rooms are located in multi level buildings that look like individual apartment buildings. Our building, Osprey, was three levels with an elevator with a glass exterior to view your surroundings during your short trip up or down. The rooms are very large with a screened in balcony if you wish to just sit and watch the golfers or the marsh. Right now they rate OK, but you can tell they need some TLC. They need new bedspreads, the pillows leave a lot to be desired, the furniture is a bit creaky, but once again they say the full remodel is just around the corner.

Our room had a nice sink and a refrigerator area, but some of our group had small kitchens in their rooms. No microwave or stove in ours, but it was convenient to have it right there for the little coffee machine.

The staff on site was very nice and wanted to do what it took to made you happy. I said on site, because you actually check-in across the road from the resort which you can easily miss if you are not careful. The front desk person was OK, but not the most friendly. I don't believe I ever saw a smile or heard a welcome...not what I would call Southern hospitality. But...he was the exception. My wife and I though each one of us had the key to the room one night but neither one of us brought it out of the room. A quick call to security and 1-2-3 there were there with a big smile and a new key to open up the room for us and he made us feel that we were not the biggest dummies in the world.

Their meeting facilities were OK for a medium sized group, but some of the breakout rooms you really wanted to break out of because they had no individual air conditioning controls and if you closed the doors you would roast.

The banquet staff deserves high marks. The food was good, the wait staff friendly, and the actual plate presentation for our banquet was beautiful. No complaints there.

The physical location of Sea Palms is great because you are just a short drive from the beach, the lighthouse, the village, and other attractions.

Be prepared that parking is inadequate if there is a large group(s) meeting at the facility.

Would I suggest our group return? Yes, but after this old gal has a change to change her makeup.

To be honest with you, I expected the Sea Palms Resort to be kind of older and run down. While it may BE older, we had such a great experience here. It's a great location- a little bit away from everything on the island, but still a short drive to the pier, restaurants, etc. Our room was HUGE, and had two big beds, a sink, coffee pot, mini fridge, HUGE bathroom (with a great giant tub!), and a screened in porch with beautiful views of the marshes. It was immaculately clean, the grounds were beautiful, and we loved getting to watch the cranes and the fish jumping from our porch. The beds were very comfortable, and the air conditioning was nice and cool. The decor was a little dated style wise, but didn't look worn. The buildings ARE older, but again, everything in our room was in imaculate condition and super clean.
I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Although I checked in at 1 am, the night manager, Nicole, was very pleasant and professional. Two others were checking in before us, but the wait was very short. The hotel is not at the office area and we had to drive about a mile to the actual resort. No problem at all.
We found our room quickly with the good directions from Nicole. The parking is open, clean and safe. Our room was clean, overlooked the marsh, and was quiet. I would stay here again.

I am really struggling how to write this review as there is nothing really wrong with this place but....

Check-in was smooth and I got to my room fine but even that was a bit odd as you have to drive from the office through a residential neighborhood to get to the rooms. No big deal though and the area is absolutely beautiful with towering oaks draped in Spanish Moss. Room numbers and buildings are clearly marked and I found my room fine.

The room itself was large, very clean and had a nice screened in porch looking out over the marsh but I don't understand why such a large room had 2 twins instead of 2 queens. Possibly it's my fault for not asking for a room with 2 queens but I don't recall seeing that option. Big room, big bathroom but it's all sooo dated! The wallpaper appears to be from the 80's and has various bubbles in it. The hand tall holder sits so low to the sink top that the towel nearly sits in the trash can.

The building overall is fine but it would be nice to have a ramp up to the same level as the elevators instead of having to negotiate the 3 or 4 stairs with luggage but the walkways should be power washed and elevator cleaned better.

Housekeeping did a good job and the daily breakfast was really pretty good, especially on the days that I was able to order anything I wanted off of the menu instead of eating the buffet. Check out was smooth and I've encountered no billing issues.

Overall I have no problems with the Sea Palms and would consider staying here again but it has a feel to it that if they don't renovate the entire property (including the convention center) that it could head south soon!

The recliner / sofa chair had a large stain on it and should be cleaned or replaced.

We stayed on the 2nd floor of the Heron Building overlooking the lake - very quiet, private, lovely view. Room was spacious, immaculate, and beds extremely comfortable. Grounds are lovely, although most of the paved paths are restricted to golfers so that was a bit confining. Check-in is currently inconveniently located away from the main resort, but we were told that will be changed in the near future. My only complaint was the taste of the tap water - unpleasant - and lack of availability of bottled water, so we paid a visit to the nearby CVS.

They immediately upgraded our room to a suite when they saw we had our grandchildren. It was a perfect place for us and we loved it. A friend had recommended it to us and we recommend it to you. It is close to restaurants, shopping, parks and is a beautiful place in which to stay.
