As we travelled with our dog, we had to stay in the "Retreat". It seems that inn owners think that dog owners live in a dump and only have messy pets so they can get the old and not so fantastic rooms.
I do not know what the Southern Living and Co. guys rated but certainly not our room. It was far from being comfortable and very plain and basic and made a rather old impression. If you like the old Motel style, then this is the place for you. We were happy to leave after 4 nights... which is a shame as the Golden Isles are a fantastic place.
Breakfast was okay, nothing special.
I do not know what the rooms in the inn are like but I would certainly never book the Retreat again

Room Tip: NOT the retreat rooms

We apologize that you found Village Retreat less than satisfactory. Pet Friendly rooms are limited on the Island, so we wanted to offer our overflow property as a pet friendly option. Normally, our staff informs the guest during the time of reservation that Village Retreat is our overflow, pet friendly property and not as upscale as the rooms at the Inn itself. We also suggest that they look at the rooms titled Village Retreat on our website. I apologize if this protocol did not happen with your reservation.
We hope that if you are ever traveling Pet Free to please stay with us at the Inn.

Thank You,
Management

This was our second stay at the Village Inn and Pub in the last year. Ideal location in the Village/Pier area of the island, the rooms are accordingly furnished, and the property is beautiful.

But...

The level of noise permitted on and around the property is absurd. Now the very name of the establishment lets you know there is a bar on the premises so a certain level of ambient noise is to be expected. But when that noise level disrupts the sleep of those staying at the inn, it becomes problematic. Conversation, laughter, and various whoops and yells from those coming and going to the pub continued until significantly after midnight each of the three nights we stayed. In addition, there is a bar across the street and the noise from there continued after 3 a.m. Now while the Village Inn is not responsible for what goes on in other establishments, those occurrences do impact the Inn's guests. Isn't there a noise ordinance on the island or at least some concept of respect and civility for those who may be trying to sleep? the word inn implies accommodation; the word accommodation implies comfort. Unfortunately, the unreasonable noise and resulting sleep disruption left my wife and I feeling neither accommodated or comfortable.

My parents moved to the island 10 years ago. We go to see them 3-4 times each year. Had I realized how perfect this little inn is I would have stayed each time. The staff was very helpful, the grounds are very nice and even though it is right in the village, it was quiet and peaceful. I stayed in their "over-flow" building, called the Retreat. It was perfect. The breakfast was very nice. This Inn is wonderful. am currently in the process of booking my next visit.

The only "weird" thing is trying to check in after the pub is in full swing on a Friday night. The place was so crowded and loud it was a bit overwhelming after 6 hours on the road. We had to check in at the bar, which could have been fun but we were too tired for all that.

It is a rare, rare thing when a property offers luxury, ambience and affordability in a picture perfect yet accessible setting, but that's the Village Inn and Pub. Built recently, but emulating the grand charm of the old south, and so respectful of its setting that almost no two rooms are alike in shape and size because the buildings cut this way and that in order to not require the removal of even one of the ancient live oaks that shade the property--it could not have a better sense of place. The property's original cottage is now the reception area and Pub. Too, it should be noted that each room has a balcony/patio. We stayed two nights and spent several idyllic hours on ours at each end of the day. Highly, highly recommended.

Our first trip to this super inn. The Staff and grounds are GREAT. One of the best maintained properties that we have ever stayed. We really enjoyed our VISIT and just wished we could stay a little longer, but have to move on to Savannah. I would recommend this INN to anyone wishing for a lot of privacy and just a great place to stroll down to the pier and close to all the great places to eat. Will be back!! Also very clean and a GREAT HOUSEKEEPING STAFF with a very nice PUB THAT HAS 2 GREAT EMPLOYEES IN AMANDA AND JENN. THANKS, OAKWOODMOBY

Room Tip: Book early for a super room. All rooms are good.

Sometimes, when you find a spot that is so idyllic, yet accessible and affordable, you almost hate to share the information for fear of the result of overcrowding and/or overpricing. But I put selfish interests aside....this little gem has become my favorite spot on St. Simons. Tucked underneath ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss, it is cozy, comfortable, tastefully decorated and so conveniently located to the quaint village shops, restaurants and pier, just a few steps away. The staff is accommodating and friendly without being intrusive - a rare combination in a small establishment. I recommend this place as a spot for romantic getaways, for a friends' weekend, or, like myself, a traveling business person who enjoys style and comfort over a big box Hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a corner room with a balcony

We had the best time on our 1 yr anniversary at the Village Inn. Caught live music Friday night, rode bikes to the pier and had a wonderful romantic weekend. We definitely recommend the orchid martini at the beautiful bar. Our only complaint: End of March was cooler than expected (we're from S. Florida haha), so no pool and breezy cold evenings on the pier. Other than the weather, we were blown away by this place. Can't wait to go back
