The Lodge at Sea Island

My wife and stayed a long weekend for golf. Rooms are large and very well appointed. Staff is very well trained but at time a bit over bearing, overall very good service. Golf courses; Sea Side and Plantation course are immaculately maintained. Liked Sea Side over Plantation. The courses are basically flat with water and bunkers for challenge. Neither course incredibly challenging and definitely not brutal just a very nice course to have a relaxing round very enjoyable. Pace was good for resort golf. Restaurant are nice, menu nothing special, food is a bit over rated and pricey. The breakfast was so so not much imagination presentation and service very good. Shuttle to get you back and forth to the beach side property with there other restaurant. Lot of local restaurants to choose from off the property great variety in St. Simons and Brunswick.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor have the better facilities.

You can't help but feel like a king when you enter the Lodge at Sea Island. Wish stayed longer than the one night!

Room was perfect; bed very comfortable. Beautiful view. We were in room 5.

Cocktails on the porch were my favorite part of evening. Certainly recommend making a reservation for dinner. Dinner was delicious at the Oak Room and again all service staff were very welcoming and friendly. I was surprised at menu pricing especially wine - there wasn't the mark-up I expected. Recommend fried oysters in the shell as a started and beef short ribs.

Golf was just as luxurious. A slight hiccup in the pro-shop not having us booked for our tee time was corrected with no delay to our schedule. Our caddie Gallary was exceptional and improved our scores!

If not familiar with country club life, you'll be most impressed with the locker rooms. Full bar and dining service available. We received same level of service as members! Not so at Pinehurst for example.

My room with the river view is on of the finest appointed rooms I can remember. The beamed ceiling with the pale blue inset was an unexpected detail that elevated the appearance of the room to spectacular. The ceiling fan gave it a true beach feel.
The grounds were perfectly maintained making walking to the beach club a pleasure.
if you can make it out to Colt and Alison at the Plantation course have their signature dish the Filet Au Poivre.

I've been to some nice places but didn't know what nice was until here. From check in to check out, the staff went above and beyond to make sure that this felt like a vacation.

The room was mighty big and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The rain forest shower head is always a great hit. The freshly made cookies and milk with turn down ended the days on an even brighter note.

For the golfers, as this is a golf "lodge", I played sea side with the first tee time of the morning on Saturday. The course was in amazing shape with almost no ball marks on the greens and the fairway bunkers pristine.

There is shuttle service that runs to the cloister every 30min.

See the Cloister review for the resort review.

Our second year in a row - the place is amazing. What more could you ask for - golf, beach, tennis, squash, pools, great restaurants, fantastic polite service, ice cream and candy store, laid back and relaxing. Great tennis program with the Jensen brothers. It really is a special place. You can totally relax or totally exhaust yourself with activities. And it is easy to get to. And we are going back next year.

The resort is beautiful. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The amenities are unsurpassed. The location is grand. The prices are exorbitant - $26 for a drink and a beer at the pool bar. Group rates for rooms start at $430. Our room had a non-functioning mini-fridge and no coffee maker. The friendly staff were happy to supply a dorm room refrigerator placed on the floor and coffee maker with the wrong carafe. Shades of college life! The area around the beach club was not particularly tidy for a resort of this caliber. There were drink cups laying around, etc.

In spite of this we loved it, had a great time and would go back but in my book, it is not a 5 star resort.

Large dark wood and leather style open area greets you with your Butler service calling you by name upon arrival! Enjoy drinks while listening to bagpipes and the player is in a kilt costume! Outdoors is lovely and includes a firepit for smores enhanced by the huge old oaks dripping with Spanish moss overlooking the golf course and then the sea! Meals are superb and you must try the steakhouse there! Seaside was a gorgeous course but I enjoyed them all! We played a different course each day, starting with the Retreat, then the Plantation and saving the best for last, winding up on Seaside. By the third day, I actually made a few birdies too! They shuttled me over to The Cloister two days to enjoy a facial and a massage at the spa, both were excellent! While I was busy with that, my husband got his clubs fitted to suit his swing better. The strong pressure on the large shower heads was awesome as were the homemade caramels and cookies left by our bed at night! When we left, we stopped by a local BBQ joint on the right hand corner of the intersection on the way out called Southern Soul BarBQue. They had outdoor picnic tables and it was very crowded but worth the twenty minute wait for food. The smokers were putting out plenty of smoke when we arrived &as we were leaving, we pulled through the parking lot and ran into more smokers with rather large gentlemen who seemed to know a LOT about how to smoke a hog! They were also smoking turkeys, sausages, chickens and more! It was really good and although I don't eat that way often, this was the time to do it!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the window seat!
