“Homey feel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

We loved this place only wish it had a better view of the ocean. The rooms were pretty with marble tiled bathroom and hardwood throughout so no stinky beach carpet. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was almost like being a guest in someone's home. The light house was across the street and that was a really pretty sight. There was a man and his wife I guess who worked nonstop to keep the place clean not like your chain hotels with housekeeping seen only during the early morning.

St. Simons Island is famous for its stately moss draped Live Oaks, beaches and the 'Historic Village' area with its shops, restaurants, pier and lighthouse. It is also famous for its friendly and homey atmosphere. The Ocean Inn & Suites is very pleased that you feel that we have captured that 'spirit'. It is something that the owners have designed into the hotel and our staff works hard daily to achieve. Yes, the Live Oaks by the lighthouse do partially block the ocean view on our lower floors but they remain an essential part of the St. Simons experience.

Great bargain! We paid an additional $40/night for the Chamber Suite and were not disappointed. The view was incredible. The room was huge! It was a conference room with a queen-sized Murphy bed, microwave, fridge, flat screen, conference table and chairs, and a wrap around balcony. Off this room was a big bathroom with a deep jetted tub/shower, and then there was the master bedroom with the king sized bed and flat screen. The only thing that room needed more of was drawer space. It is directly across the street from the lighthouse, which was visible from the Murphy bed, across from Neptune water park and mini golf, and two blocks from the pier and village. The pool was nice and private. The only thing that prevented me from giving this hotel 5 stars is the breakfast bar. Whew! It is bad by hotel standards but offers cold cereal, cold muffins, juice, & coffee. That will get you out the door to McDonald's.

The owners and staff at the Ocean Inn & Suites are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our mission is to provide each guest a 'home away from home' during their visit and our staff works very hard toward that goal daily. We are proud that our hotel can offer a great room in a great location at an affordable price. With so many different shops and restaurants within short walking distance, the shopping and dining options are exceptional. Therefore, we are happy to give our guests great essentials that still permit them to experience all that St. Simons has to offer.

First I would like to say, If you have $300 to spend a night on a hotel room at the Cloister or King and Prince please do so and don't degrade this wonderful hotel with your bad reviews. I do not prefer to give that kind of money for a place to lay my head at night. Do you really spend enough time in your hotel room to feel the need to spend that kind of money. You may go to a more fancier expensive hotel but you will not get the service or the friendliness of the small staff here who have the time to give you their attention.
The location of this hotel was excellent. Much better than any hotel on the Island! You can walk to everything and the view is great.
The managers, one or the other, were there at all times. It is a small group of people taking care of this place and as much work as they all put in sometimes they may need a day off!
For the price you couldn't ask for anything better. If you're looking for a Ritz please feel free to go elsewhere. The staff, atmosphere and location here beat any thing an expensive hotel has to offer. Everyone was very friendly and helpful in everything we needed. We stayed in a room right off of the lobby, which we preferred because of the room itself and the view, not because it was just assigned to us, and they always asked us about our adventures of the day each time we came in.
There are rooms with balconies of several different sizes and options. The rooms felt more like a "home" with the wood floors than a run down nasty carpet that most hotels have in them.
The Free breakfast that they offer is no different than any other hotel that offers this. It is what it is and it is Free. There are refrigerators in the rooms, feel free to bring your own breakfast if you want to spend more money.
Management does take all recommendations to heart and this is my second stay in the past few years and they are working on "perfecting" everything to please everyone. I highly recommend this place and definitely will be back.

Room Tip: Front of hotel with great views and different varieties of balcony choices

"The Ocean Inn & Suites continually strives to improve our Guest's St. Simons experience. That is why our Guest's feedback is so important. The entire staff is appreciative that our efforts have been recognized in your kind review.
We feel that we offer a unique lodging opportunity. Our hotel, with its many types of rooms is dedicated to providing a clean, charming yet affordable experience in a personal family atmosphere. Toward that end, the hotel was designed with rosewood floors, marble baths and balconies that offer various residential, St. Simons Lighthouse and Ocean views. At Ocean Inn & Suites the ocean breeze is always at your 'finger tips'. Also its location in the heart of the 'Historic Village" area make it a perfect spot from which to walk to shops and restaurants.
We plan to always work tirelessly to improve the Ocean Inn & Suites for our Guest's continued enjoyment. Again, thank you for your kind review and we look forward to your next visit."

Booked an "over sized suite", got a single room. Manager refused to accommodate. The drop ceiling and half empty bottle of "intimate" lotion they provided adds a certain elegance, too. Book elsewhere.

Room Tip: Drippy AC units from above, while your AC unit blows hot air onto your balcony - making that romanti...

" We are very concerned that there was a misunderstanding with this Guest. Ocean Inn & Suites prides itself on offering only the best in service, cleanliness, and accommodations at an affordable price. The large numbers of return Guests shows our continued success. Our rooms and Suites are cleaned by very dedicated and hardworking staff and followed up by always-double inspections to assure high quality of cleanliness. Ocean Inn & Suites philosophy is that the staff should provide service to our guests as if they are taking care of their own dearest family member or best friend!!
When reservations are made, we strive to match the Guest's party with the accommodations that most closely suit their needs. This is important since the Ocean Inn & Suites has eleven types of rooms and suites from which to choose. Once this process is complete, an e-mail confirmation is sent to the Guest in order to verify the reservation. Unfortunately, occasionally the Guest will change the number in their party without our knowledge. When this happens, the accommodations, so carefully chosen, may no longer match their needs upon arrival. We then strive to successfully address their new requirements. It is always the intent of the Ocean Inn & Suites that our Guests experience the charm of St. Simons Island afforded by the Ocean Inn & Suites and its unique location by the Lighthouse and Historic Village area."

This was my first visit to St. Simons. My boyfriend surprised me with a birthday trip. He had wanted to stay at the King & Prince, but it was booked. I would say this was a pretty good alternative. It was very clean and the room smelled nice. The air conditioner worked great, and it was in a very convenient location to many restaurants and shops. We only had to drive to get to the beach and to Crabdaddy's Restaurant, which was also recommended by friends. The parking situation was a little annoying because the parking spaces at the hotel were tiny. I cannot imagine what we would have done if we had an SUV...luckily we were in a Toyota Camry. The spaces were so tight and difficult to get in and out of because of the columns. The hotel was also very noisy, like the walls were very thin. I could hear what everyone else was doing in the hotel the entire time. The room was gorgeous and the bed was very comfortably. I also felt that the room was extremely clean, which is a huge priority for me. I would definitely stay here again.

Spent two nights at the Ocean Inn recently. Location of the hotel is good...not sure I would refer to it a "boutique" but it was nice. Great view from our room of the lighthouse and water. Staff was helpful, parking spaces were very tight underneath building...continental breakfast was fairly standard stuff. For about the same money or maybe just a little more, i would try to stay at the King and Prince but that's just my opinion.

Room Tip: Stay in a room on the top floor for the best view off the front of the building.

We've been visiting St. Simons Island for 14 years. Yet, this was our first stay at Ocean Inn and Suites. We enjoyed a last minute getaway and decided to try this hotel since our usual places were booked. Overall, the hotel is nice and we'd stay there again if we couldn't find other accommodations. The value for the price is good. Plus the view was fabulous and the location is perfect. We were able to walk to the village and the pier.

But, it's not a "luxury hotel". We travel often and it's nice when hotel pays attention to the details. I think Ocean Inn & Suites is nice, but lacks those details that would make it great. First, the linens. If the linens are frayed, ripped or stained, replace them. That's simply unacceptable. Next, have quality toiletries, i.e. shampoo AND conditioner and decent bath soap. And if you're going to have a hair dryer in the room, have one that puts out enough air to actually do any good. The shower made a screeching noise while running and the toilet won't flush unless you hold the handle.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay but it's simply those little annoying details that are not well executed. With a little attention, this could be our new favorite place. Otherwise, we may choose the Village Inn, the King and Prince or Ocean Lodge.

Incidentally, the parking lot has loads of concrete posts, many confusing lines and handicap markings, it's challenging to park.

Room Tip: The 3rd floor front side provides the best views and we didn't mind the small balcony.
