After 4 take offs and landings from the N. Serengeti this lodge was a welcomed oasis. We had bungalow #40 at the furthest end of the walkway. Room was clean and cool. The pool areawas a great place to relax but we did not go in. There is a computer in the bar area that you can use to print out boarding passes that are sent to the main office. Pick up van is very old but we only traveled from JRO to the lodge and then back again for our flight. Could be spectacular if taken better care of. Plane noise was not a problem for just a day stay.

Room Tip: #40 at the furthest end of the resort.

Kia Lodge is incredibly convenient when you get off an evening plane into Arusha. The rooms were OK and the bed reasonably comfortable and clean.

We arrived a night early to recover from the long flight before hiking Kilimanjaro, so we had two rooms for two nights. The staff was uneven, the food was OK and all seemed kind of broken down.

The internet did not work much of the time, which was annoying because we had counted on letting people know we had arrived without a problem. The electricity and hot water were occasionally not available and, worst of all, when we went to check out, there was no access to credit card companies as expected [signs everywhere noted VISA and
Mastercard taken] so we had to pay for dinner, drinks etc. out of cash.

Plan on paying for anything not prepaid with cash.

Also, put on bug repellent before you go to sleep--we woke up with bites despite the mosquito netting.

On the up side, it was quiet as long as you were away from the bar which played nonstop Abba music and just before sunset there was a beautiful view of Kilimanjaro.

Room Tip: away from the bar but not miles from the lobby and dining room--the place is VERY sprawling.

My wife and I stayed at Kia for two nights in early August, having arrived from North America and then awaiting pick-up by our Safari tour company. The hotel was perfectly acceptable -- clean rooms, food adequate (nothing special), fair and respectful service, etc. The staff was friendly and the accommodations were fine. Let's be honest -- one cannot expect much at an airport transit lodge for 1-2 nights. Most people only stay here for a night or two and it's all that it is required to be. The pool is not heated but was clean; the bar was fine and there was a PC at the bar for internet / email access. All in all, it was fine and basic -- you don't need anything more.

We spent one night at the KIA Lodge following a safari. Because of its proximity to the airport I was willing to pay the higher cost than lodgings in Arusha. However if I were to repeat this journey I would stay at a hotel in Arusha and pay a dirver to get me to the Kilimajaro Airport. I would not stay at KIA Lodge again.
The grounds are fine and the pool area is very attractive. The small cabins are basic, no frills. The bed linens were the coursest weave we encountered on our 3 week saty in Africa, and were not very pleasant to touch. There was internet only in the bar- and after 30 min there would apparently be a charge. There was no television, which was not really surprising. But the biggest disappointment was the food. Choosing a beef entre, from the very limited choices, we were not at all pleased. The meat itself was tough and the vegetables bland. The soup tasted like Campbell's tomato. This Lodge is very expensive for the quality of food and the facilities provided and does not in my opinion offer good value.

My father and I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the airport and complementary airport shuttle. We didn’t expect much for a hotel so near the airport, but we were very pleasantly surprised. The grounds are lush and well-manicured. There is a nice bar just steps down from the pretty pool that has a spot for viewing Kilimanjaro (when it’s not socked in). There is a computer for guest use and a gift shop as well. The room, which was shaped like a hut, was spacious and had an excellent shower along with shampoo, lotion, and soap. The beds, with mosquito nets, were very comfortable. Dinner at the restaurant was prix fixe and rather expensive we thought, but you are a captive audience there, so that’s to be expected somewhat. Overall, Kia Lodge offered a good value.
