The lodge is at a strategic place, nect to the airport. Apart from that hardly anything is realy o.k. The cabins urgently need repairs, the personnel need management and the restaurant a chef. It has been better in the past, it feels as if the owners have no longer realy attention.
However, still good for a night.

Room Tip: Check the room before you accept it. Too many have (essential) defects at the moment, like not working airco's or broken mosquito nets

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay.

We have set aside a budget for repairs in the next low season and you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that all the rooms shall undergo some serious make overs and repairs.

We shall be happy to welcome you at the Kia Lodge next time so that you can see the difference your feedback has made.

Best Regards,

The Moivaro Team.

We arrived from the Serengeti and had time to spend before our flight to Nairobi and then to Heathrow. We had booked two day rooms which were perfect for us. We had a good lunch in their lovely restaurant and then spent a couple of hours by the pool. Yes you can hear the planes, but Kilimanjaro is not a busy airport, so we weren't really aware of these. You can't see the mountain most of the time as it is shrouded in cloud most days. Porters were hanging around waiting for tips. But as a way to have a relaxing afternoon before long flights, the Kia Lodge is good.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem the same, set in lovely gardens with lots of birds around - they're a bit dated, but you won't be spending long here. Good showers, plenty of towels.

Thank you for your feedback!

There is nothing we love to hear more than our guests having a good experience while staying with us.

We are glad to see you found our restaurant lovely and enjoyed the good lunch.

You are right, the mountain is sometimes hiding in the clouds... But on clear days most of our guests always enjoy the picturesque sight, with enough pictures to take home!

I would like to correct a mistaken impression you might have had on the porters, they are always hanging around close to the areas guests are in case you need them to assist you in carrying your bags or send to fetch restaurant staff making it convenient if you require assistance.

Asante and we look forward to seeing you again at Kia Lodge!

Best regards,

Moivaro Team

We stayed at the KIA lodge after arriving at JRO airport at 3:30am. Shuttle driver was waiting and took us immediately to the lodge, for which we were very grateful.

The man who brought our luggage to our room showed us the remote to the A/C, but shrugged and showed us it was broken. My husband was able to turn the A/C on manually by standing on the desk. Air conditioning was much quieter than good hotels in the states. Beds were a bit hard, but seemed clean.

The grounds were nicely landscaped, and were great for birding! They even had a list of birds sightings by guests on the bulletin board near the restaurant. Breakfast was ok, but no eggs.

Staff was helpful in calling our driver, who was late.

Quite close to Kilimanjaro airport; the down side you can literally count the planes that land and take off. Being in the vicinity of the airport compromises on the peace and tranquillity that greets you when you check in.

The environment typically resembles being in the bush, you pretty much get entertained by birds and animals. The room I stayed in was spacious, comfortable bed and the shower made me stay longer that always, you can waste a bit of water without realizing it.I enjoyed the food quite fresh and served hot, although the menu does not offer so many choices.

If you looking for peace and quiet, this may not be the best place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms further from the runway. Choose rooms that allow you to view Mt Kilimanjaro from inside.

We came here twice in the last few months dropping friends for early departures in the morning and having farewell dinners. I stayed here 3 years ago (different management then). When we ate in early June the dinner booking had not arrived at the lodge and we put the incredibly small portions down to that they probably not had enough food seeing there was no booking. Last night we went for dinner again, reluctantly but out of convenience. The food was horrible (cold and soggy tempura as a starter...) and then there was arguments over the cost (they told us the prices for each course seeing we did not want all and had kids with us whom we did not want to pay $25 for) - and of course the story was very different once we paid. We have eaten at places managed by the same chain and they were far superior, sadly with the new management here the quality has degraded to the unacceptable. I mentioned this in person to reception but I didn't feel they wanted to hear. Location and the pool with Kili view is what made me like this place last time, but the latter may be of no use for late arrivals/early departures.

Room Tip: Negotiate fiercely for both room and dinner cost and get it in writing. We saw people eating burgers next to us, we didn't get that offer and it would have been perfect for the kids.
