“IF only.....”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

This could be a cute little inn IF the room didn't reek of mildew, IF the kitchen and bathroom cabinets weren't filthy, IF the holes in the ceiling of the bedroom and shower were repaired, IF the mold was removed from the shower, IF the AC filter was ever changed and the AC grill cleaned, IF the whole room were thoroughly cleaned and IF it was given a fresh coat of paint. The bed linens were the only clean thing in the apartment, thankful for that. The shower was so disgusting we opted to use the cold water outdoor shower and the bathroom sink. We didn't use the kitchenette at all because everything felt grimy with grease and crud. Paid for four nights but just couldn't take it so we left early. This place is poorly maintained which is a shame because you can see the potential.
In addition, when I called to request a confirmation email since I'd never received one the woman complained that she was busy (an aside: Don't you hate it when people in the service industry whine about being busy?!) but would send confirmation. She never sent me a confirmation. I called the morning we were to arrive and was told a note was on the door of Room 5 with instructions. This is southern hospitality?!

we reserved #4 Opalscene for our 25th wedding anniversary....we were promised a quiet quaint room with an ocean view....actually the owner "Helen" said our room was across the street from the beach....we reserved 3 nights with a no refund policy if canceled but she would give us another date to stay in exchange if an unforeseen event happened and we had to leave early or cancel...we arrived 2 hours early and the cleaning staff greeted us and were very helpful, we never received our confirmation so we knew very little....the keys were in a lock box and we had no passcode...the cleaning lady found Helen after many ph calls...the keys did not work for our room...after much trying and stress the cleaning lady gave us her keys...we were in our room about 30 minutes before actual check in time. I liked the room, it was quaint and clean but did have a rundown appearance...the adjoining porch was not level and leaned forward toward a broken bannister...the roof that covered the porch had loose boards hanging down...peeling paint...just yuk! and our room, the entire Inn faced more Inns, condo's etc....the oceanview was 1 foot wide if you looked left down the street and a palm tree blocked most of the view...you could not see the beach at all, just a few umbrella tops...we were very disappointed but decided to make the best of our stay....below are the reasons we left after 1 night, without a refund or additional nights at a later date, which we did not want anyway....
1. 3 towels and 1 washcloth were the "linens" available....for 4 days and 3 nights?
2. Pull chain came out of fan when we turned the light off....
3. Smoke alarm beeped at 5:00 am for about an hour to alert us the battery was dead...No sleeping in! didn't sleep much anyway, this Inn is on a very busy street...
4. I broke my ankle and had to return home, called Helen and she was sorry to hear it but would have to stick to the No refund policy, she never asked where I fell...but it was not on the steep stairs that led up to our room...or the uneven doorways...or the porch that went downhill....
5. the deck advertised outside the Inn is awful...broken chairs and nasty park type grills....

The price was right....that was the only thing right....you get what you pay for and not a dime back....very disappointed.

Room Tip: Don't stay here....

This inn has a faded, rustic charm which appealled to us. It was nice and quiet and well located, just minutes from the beach and bars etc. We liked having equipment to cook simple lunches and breakfasts-everything worked and all items were provided. The bathroom was fine and everything was clean. The room is small but adequate. Choose your room wisely though as there are a lot of wooden outdoor steps which were hard to carry luggage to, and the rooms at the back did not seem to have their own outdoor patio or balcony seating area, unlike the rooms at the front-the back rooms had a large shared area. Parking was easy-you are given a permit to put in the window. Instructions on how to access the keys weren't clear when we arrived as noone is actually on the premises to hand over your keys-instructions were actually left on the room door, which we hadn't gone up to as we'd assumed it was locked. This meant we had to make phone calls to sort out how to get in. Otherwise, this was the only ptoblem we encountered and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms downstairs at the front if you want a private balcony. Also, be warned that the rooms u...

The good...Great location, easy walk to beach, stores and restaurants. Cute place, small bedroom, small bathroom with shower, compact kitchen area. Plenty of hot water for showers. Free on street parking with site provided pass. Stayed in #6 with small screened patio.
The bad...place is dated but adds to charm. Refig not working, A/C blowing tepid air even when set at 62 degrees.
The ugly...needs a through cleaning. Floors had not been swept, had hair from previous renter on them. Appliances old and dirty..caked on grease on stove, etc.

Our favorite part of visiting the south was staying at this earthy inn and going to the fabulous beach. The bedroom/living space was not fancy but it worked. The kitchen was adequate. The porch was great for sipping our coffee or having a beer. We cooked fresh seafood and ate in the patio area. Nothing amazing but in the end we just loved it. A short stroll took us to the long, expansive and busy beach. A short drive and we found an outlet for fresh seafood. Nothing is that far away. This was such a nice place to stay…it feels historic…not a faceless hotel.

Room Tip: We liked being on the first floor, facing the street.

My husband and I stayed in the two bedroom condo. We enjoyed all the amenities this condo offers! We loved the views from both the front porch, with the swing, as well as the views from opening up the bedroom door and enjoying the ocean views from this vantage point! This condo has a nice open floor plan. With the bedrooms down a hallway, isolated some from the living space. We walked and rode bikes everywhere. That is how centerally located to everything this condo is!!! It was so much fun to enjoy the sunrise (20 steps from the condo to the beach) and the sunset....which is just a short walk down the beach. This condo is all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! On a quiet street, with a view of the ocean but within walking distance to beach and many restaurants. Walked to AJ's Dockside and The Breakfast Club. Bikes were delivered to us by Tim's Bike & Beach Gear! Would recommend these businesses.

Stayed here for a half marathon. It has 4 decent local/touristy bars within half a mile, really close to the beach and a gas station for odds and ends just a little ways down from the supermkt. The room is kinda small but perfect for 2 people really. Its technically a full kitchen minus the dishwasher, but man is it small. It did the trick though, everything worked at least. The deck area around the inn is so cool. tey have to charcoal grills and there are tons of places to sit and chill. Great if a lot of couples or friends wanted to go and rent a lot of rooms.
