The room was clean and well deorated. It is an older building that shows its age, which adds to the charm of the place. As long as your looking for a nice, quirky, small place to stay that is within walking distance to the beach then this is a
great place to stay. Also, keep in mind that the inn hosts hundreds of people per year and apparently the only people who wrote reviews recently were the unhappy ones. On our visit we found absolutely no reason for such harsh reviews. We spoke to the owner several times during our visit and she seemed to be on top of any issues that could arise. We highly recommend giving this place a chance.

Quaint, B&B feel without the breakfast, which is perfect, as we never manage to make it to breakfast anyway! Great location, right by the beach, and 1 block from the main street of food, souvenir shops, and pier. The place was quiet. We arrived early, afraid we’d have to kill time before checking in, but our key and instructions were right on our door. Checking out was equally hassle free; just leave everything where you found it. We never saw the owner, which made it a perfect place for those who do not like to be bothered!

The room was cute with an antique style. Efficiency kitchen/bathroom; dated but gets the job done. We loved the porches, and the 2-minute walk to the water. It felt just as though we lived by the beach. We hung our beach towels, and swimwear on our porch, and left our chairs/umbrella, and cooler out to dry. No one bothered anything, and we came and went when we felt like it. Nap when you like, hit the beach when you like. Great relaxed atmosphere. We plan to return many more times to Tybee, and have already scheduled our return to The 17th Street Inn.

One happy couple on their 7th Anniversary. :)

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms make unloading a breeze!

Family was spending weekend in Savannah for college graduation. We decided we wanted to stay on Tybee. If you're wanting to be close to the beach, this is the place for you. Only about half a block to beach and another block to restaurants. We picked this place because it was the cheapest we could find on the island - and for good reason. We booked Room #7 (Pocket of Sunshine) for 3 nights. Check in was the weirdest thing ever. Had it not been for another guest sitting on the front porch, I would have had no idea what to do. Literally just an envelope on the door to your room with instructions on how to get your keys from a lock box. Never saw a single staff member. There were a few guys there in the morning who looked to be doing maintenance, but they never introduced themselves or had a name tag. Housekeeping does not clean your room or bring fresh linens while you are staying there. So if you're planning on an extended stay, bring extra towels (which you have to do for the beach anyways). Room was tiny/cramped - but we figured it would be. Instructions state that guests are responsible for washing dishes and leaving them clean for next guest - yeah right! Had to wash every dish before use. Plus, there was only 1 spoon in the drawer. Otherwise, plenty of dishes and every size pot you could image was provided. But, if you do cook, understand that there isn't really anywhere to sit and eat in the room. We had the bed w/ the lap tray. There was a single TV tray provided. Or you could use the tiny side table. Bathroom was tiny - you could sit on the toilet, lean forward, and rest your elbows on the sink. Also, the shower door didn't shut all the way. You could tell there was water damage to the floors, but they covered it with a bath mat. A/C took forever to cool down the room - probably due to the amount of lint/dust on the filter that probably hasn't been changed in a year. No easy access to the closet - blocked by a large chair. Our room was located in the back of the inn upstairs, which meant a climb up steep wooden stairs that were exposed to the elements. There was stair lighting, but none of it worked. No private balcony. Also, both the upstairs rooms share a hallway, so you can hear the other guests coming in/out. 3 keys were provided: 1 for the hallway door, 1 for the lock, 1 for the deadbolt. A little excessive, and they weren't labelled, which meant you made all sorts of noise in the hallway trying to figure out which key to use. The common patio was large, but grilling utensils totally rusted out and seating needed fresh coats of paint. Outdoor shower was provided which was great for rinsing off sand after a walk on the beach. Parking permit for the island was included with room, which was a total perk. Also, the wifi was hit or miss. My husband was able to connect, but I couldn't for the first 2 days.

Overall, it wasn't the worse hotel we've stayed in. We chose it for the proximity to the beach, and it delivered in that aspect. Does the entire place need a makeover? Absolutely. But we didn't spend that much time in our room to really care about the disheveled look of the place. Would we stay here again? Probably. But we'll definitely research other options before choosing this one again.

Room Tip: Rooms 7 & 8 are upstairs. Stairs are steep, wooden, and outdoors. Can become slightly slippery after a storm. Stairway lighting was broken.

This could be a cute little inn IF the room didn't reek of mildew, IF the kitchen and bathroom cabinets weren't filthy, IF the holes in the ceiling of the bedroom and shower were repaired, IF the mold was removed from the shower, IF the AC filter was ever changed and the AC grill cleaned, IF the whole room were thoroughly cleaned and IF it was given a fresh coat of paint. The bed linens were the only clean thing in the apartment, thankful for that. The shower was so disgusting we opted to use the cold water outdoor shower and the bathroom sink. We didn't use the kitchenette at all because everything felt grimy with grease and crud. Paid for four nights but just couldn't take it so we left early. This place is poorly maintained which is a shame because you can see the potential.
In addition, when I called to request a confirmation email since I'd never received one the woman complained that she was busy (an aside: Don't you hate it when people in the service industry whine about being busy?!) but would send confirmation. She never sent me a confirmation. I called the morning we were to arrive and was told a note was on the door of Room 5 with instructions. This is southern hospitality?!

we reserved #4 Opalscene for our 25th wedding anniversary....we were promised a quiet quaint room with an ocean view....actually the owner "Helen" said our room was across the street from the beach....we reserved 3 nights with a no refund policy if canceled but she would give us another date to stay in exchange if an unforeseen event happened and we had to leave early or cancel...we arrived 2 hours early and the cleaning staff greeted us and were very helpful, we never received our confirmation so we knew very little....the keys were in a lock box and we had no passcode...the cleaning lady found Helen after many ph calls...the keys did not work for our room...after much trying and stress the cleaning lady gave us her keys...we were in our room about 30 minutes before actual check in time. I liked the room, it was quaint and clean but did have a rundown appearance...the adjoining porch was not level and leaned forward toward a broken bannister...the roof that covered the porch had loose boards hanging down...peeling paint...just yuk! and our room, the entire Inn faced more Inns, condo's etc....the oceanview was 1 foot wide if you looked left down the street and a palm tree blocked most of the view...you could not see the beach at all, just a few umbrella tops...we were very disappointed but decided to make the best of our stay....below are the reasons we left after 1 night, without a refund or additional nights at a later date, which we did not want anyway....
1. 3 towels and 1 washcloth were the "linens" available....for 4 days and 3 nights?
2. Pull chain came out of fan when we turned the light off....
3. Smoke alarm beeped at 5:00 am for about an hour to alert us the battery was dead...No sleeping in! didn't sleep much anyway, this Inn is on a very busy street...
4. I broke my ankle and had to return home, called Helen and she was sorry to hear it but would have to stick to the No refund policy, she never asked where I fell...but it was not on the steep stairs that led up to our room...or the uneven doorways...or the porch that went downhill....
5. the deck advertised outside the Inn is awful...broken chairs and nasty park type grills....

The price was right....that was the only thing right....you get what you pay for and not a dime back....very disappointed.

Room Tip: Don't stay here....
