We were only on Tybee Island for one full day and were not familiar with it. After spending the entire day on the beach, we were looking for a great waterfront restaurant in which to eat, on our last night before heading home. Since we used to live on the Gulf Coast, we were amazed that there are so few waterfront dining choices in the area. But we were determined to find one and came across AJ's. The parking lot was small, but we were lucky enough to pull up just as someone was pulling out. After parking, we noticed quite a few folks waiting outside and knew we would have a wait. That was ok with us as we headed into the bar area for a drink. The wait was only about a half hour and that time was spent chit chatting with those at the bar. BTW....Kayla made some great drinks for us...and YES, she does deserve her own sign behind the bar! :)
When they were ready for us, we were seated outside, which was great. The clouds had moved in and rain seemed on the way, but did not arrive before we left. We took our time ordering and finished our drinks, while our waitress brought our our Greek salad and my husbands Crab Stew. All very good so far! For dinner, we both had the Scoured Flounder, which we had been told by someone at the bar....was the fish dish to get. We were not disappointed. It was great, along with the hushpuppies and the potato salad. To top it off and to end our vacation on the right note....we shared a piece of Key Lime Pie! Ahhhh yes...we were happy campers! Even bought a visor before leaving.

Atmosphere, service, food were all just what we were looking for! MUCH better than other local restaurants especially MacElwees!

I have mixed feelings about AJs. First of all, you can not beat dining on the deck over the water. However, everyone else enjoys this as well...therefore, it has not been uncommon for us to wait 1 and 2 hours for a seat outside. Luckily, you can drink while you wait, but sometimes that may not be enough. Food is normally really good and once we got a table it was all good. But not gonna say we weren't a little tipsy by the time we were seated. Lol

Friends & I were staying on Tybee & went to AJ's because we had heard it was very good. The night we arrived, there was a monsoon-like rainstorm and, prior to their arrival, the outer seating area had been awash with rain. By the time we arrived, it was all cleaned up but other customers told us how the staff had been running around tying down the awnings & cleaning up. I mention this because we are wondering if this influenced the experience we had. Our waitress was unfriendly, to say the least. It appeared as if she really didn't want to be there. I ordered the mahi-mahi and it was so flavorless that I had to add salt to it three times! Basically, it tasted like wet cotton in my mouth. Friends ordered the conch fritters and they were unimpressed. We also had the salmon dip - it was also mediocre. One of my party has been to this restaurant many times before and says that it is normally very good, so we will chalk it up to a bad night but, given the plethora of dining choices on Tybee, I would not be inclined to return.

You go to A-J's for the sunset views over the inter-coastal. Lot's of seating on the deck if it's not raining. Get a po-boy, drink and enjoy the view.
DO NOT go here for great seafood. The food is okay at best. You can get the same quality seafood across America. It's just okay folks. And the prices are crazy. Three of us cost $70.00-something and we don't drink alcoholic beverages. Very pricey for just okay food. Small portions too.
Service is okay, and they did have live music on Thursday night last week.
Sorry for the average review, but it really is.
