“Best ambiance, even better food!!”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

Think of "The Silver Palate" or "Barefoot Contessa" walk-in restaurant/ready-to-eat take out/bakery/cafe.....It's just wonderful!! The foods are fresh daily - delicious salads, sandwiches, soups - Perfect on a warm sunny day on the patio - or perfect like today on a chilly fall afternoon when the air is just getting crisp! Come in and warm up w/ some sweet potato-ginger soup and the best hot chocolate w/ salted caramel whipped cream!! You will leave satisfied and inspired by the deliciousness and the variety of home-goods and decor that surround you! Home made cookie dough by the roll to take home and bake; pasta dishes ready to heat up and devour - I love coming here and do so at every chance!! So happy to have this decadence in Boise!!

“Location + Vibe + Service + Food + Shopping = We Loved It All”
Reviewed 17 June 2013

My husband and I had an excellent experience all around at A Tavola during our stop in there on a trip through Boise. The location, the vibe, the food, the service, the gourmet and home gift options, we loved it all. Were we Boise located, we’d be in here as regulars. Were this in our neighborhood, it would be a favorite for us.

LOCATION / PARKING
Just outside the downtown core at 15th and Grove, this is convenient. In particular since it has its’ own parking lot.

VIBE
Looks like this building may have been repurposed from a garage as there are big doors that roll up in the nice weather. Great open interior with lots of seating at communal and individual standard height (hooray) tables and chairs throughout. More seating on the patio in the front.

Part café, part deli, part gourmet market, part bakery and espresso bar, part cookbook library, part home and kitchen gifts and accessories shop in a high ceiling open concept space divided up with seating and displays it was all wonderful.

SERVICE
From the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by the young woman at the bakery / coffee bar counter through our ordering of breakfast and coffee to our ordering of take out to take home, service was friendly and efficient.

The routine is order at the deli counter, including your coffee order, take a number and they’ll deliver to your table. They also clear for you after you’re done so no need to bus your own. Normally not a fan of counter ordering, I love it here. It works and it fits.

It was also very nice of them to provide us with a zip loc bag of ice to use in our cooler so we could order deli take out items to go with us for the several hour drive home.

FOOD
So many good choices on the menu at the counter and in the deli case. For breakfast we shared (it is big enough for sure) a chile relleno baked dish ($6.95) that was almost cheese souflee like with whole roasted poblano chiles. Delicious. And since I’m a person who likes veggies at all meals, I ordered a small side of the broccoli, red grapes and almond salad to go with my breakfast. It was very tasty.

All of our take out items to have for an easy meal when we got home later that day after a long drive we also good. The picante tuna salad in particular.

The bakery case looked tempting but at the tail end of a long vacation we decided to let temptation pass us by. Next time in we’d definitely indulge. And the bold roast coffee was great, served in 12 oz mugs ($1.95).

Deli items rotate frequently so it seems that there would always be standard favorites and new things to enjoy. I hear they make some wicked good homemade soups too.

PRICES
Some locals suggested this was a "break the bank pricing palce." But we found the prices reasonable for portion sizes and quality. Maybe visitors who live elsewhere have a different frame of reference for pricing than locals. But comparing this to Oakville Grocery or Dean and Deluca, as analogs, in some of our old stomping grounds of SF area or NYC area or even food to go in our current home in Bend, the prices here seemed good to us.

GO SLOW SHOPPING
All kinds of great quality items for personal care, like soaps and lotions, or home, kitchen and gift items like candles, trivets, books, cookware, linens…the list goes on and on. A friend of mine calls this kind of store a “go slow shop” since you can see a new treasure tucked everywhere.

ACCESSIBILITY
Great universally accessible design from parking (ADA spots in the lot), to level in and throughout and standard table height seating.

“Poor management leads to poor customer experience.”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

The food tasted okay. But, the order was all messed up. The prices are inflated beyond reality from a consumer perspective. The displays were messy. There were products that are dusty, and smashed, yet still on display. The CROQUE MONSIEUR tasted good, but was mediocre. The side salad was also mediocre. The chips are mainstream cheap package chips. Will not recommend. Will not go again.

“A Tavola is my favorite place for coffee, pastry and conversation.”

This cafe and bakery gets all the details right. Friendly service, great coffee and too many delectable baked goods to choose between are the highlights of this lovely spot in Boise's Linen District. I hear the lunch is good, too!

“Wonderful food with urban chic venue”
Reviewed 11 December 2012

Open at 15th and Grove for the past year this is a great place to go for breakfast and particularly for lunch. There are many selections with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and great seasonings. The espresso bar is great too. They sell a good variety of gourmet sauces, chocolates, and other foods to tempt you along with some great gift items. They do not take reservations so going between noon and 1:00 for lunch will be busy as it is a popular place. Enjoy.
