After our fifth or sixth visit to this immaculate café, I must publically sing its praises and wonder why it is still relatively unknown to the general public. Janjou serves coffee, hot chocolate and a few other beverages along with the most delectable pastries, tarts, quiche, and desserts. Everything is made with the highest quality butter, cream, and flour available in a kitchen with a viewing window. The pastries are not only beautiful to behold, but flakey, crispy, and always fresh. The coffee is the best in the Treasure Valley and my husband, who is not a coffee drinker, adores the hot chocolate made from shaved chocolate not cocoa powder in the European tradition. We come regularly on Sunday mornings and wonder where are the crowds. Why don't locals know about this gem? How can a large chain coffee shop survive across the street when one can obtain a cup of perfection here for the same price? Why is anyone else selling croissants in this town? Why is anyone buying croissants in this town anywhere else? You must give Janjou a try today!!

This is definitely the best coffee and pastries in Boise. If you are after dilute coffee and donuts - never mind. If you like excellent coffee( not overroasted) and great pastries- this is your place. The owner is a lovely lady who makes everything from scratch with her team of bakers. The place is rather small but immaculate.
My wife has discovered it and fell in love with it.
Highly recommended.

After hearing friends here in Ketchum rave about how much they love Janjou, I finally had to try it for myself so I made the 2.5 hour drive. To say it was worth it and exceeded my expectations is an understatement. This is probably THE BEST almond croissant and coffee I've had in the US. It truly felt like I was in France. Don't let the location fool you. Bon appetite!

“Pastry par excellence”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

Best in Boise, bar none. We go often, even though we buy more than we should. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. There is no comparison for something like croissants. We did a taste test with Coop's croissants and Coop's tasted like Sysco made them. But jonjou's were buttery, delicate, yet the right texture. A latte and a couple of pastries is heaven .

“A little bit of Europe in Boise”

Janjou has the freshest pastries available west of New York. I tried the pain au chocolat, croissants, lemon tart, caramel tart, and a bostock. All fresh and at their peak. These are pastries you don't travel with. You eat them there... in one sitting. :)
