“This is the place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2012

For a most reasonable price we stayed in an old schoolhouse - what a delight it was....Ruth was an amazing friendly host and the accomodation was special! We stayed in The Tuscan Room but we had the choice of other beautifully furnished rooms...The furnishings and upholstery top class with good quality bed linens and towels....the breakfast was delicious, none of your usual bacon and eggs fayre! we had pancakes, huckleberry sauce, delicious quiche, toast, yoghurts, etc etc etc...it set us up for day and all in the old school room.
Ruth gave us directions to a wildlife refuge and we saw the elusive moose, bald eagles, heron, deer and all in the most magical of settings...dusk in Idaho when the sun sets is magic.
If ever we pass through the little town of Bonners Ferry again then we'll be staying at the Northside....
The town is friendly, the museum really interesting and friendly, we had lunch at the back of a shop 'Under the sun' and had a delicious lunch sandwich and soup lunch....
Don't pass Bonners Ferry, stop for lunch and if staying overnight drive over the bridge and up the hill to the old school house...

Room Tip: All were beautiful.

Very nice old school house building that has been lovingly restored. We had room 2, which was lovely and big, with a roll top bath. Breakfast was generous and the hosts were very friendly. Only issue was following the GPS directions, which put us on the wrong side of the road down a dirt road.

My husband and I enjoyed one night on our trip up towards the Canadian Rockies. We stayed in the principal's office and slept very well. Breakfast was way better than we expected with lots of homebaked breads and hot dishes - along with a wide variety of fresh fruit and good coffee.

The hot tub was very nice after dinner in town.

Room Tip: We were offered a choice of several rooms - all looked comfortable and nicely appointed.

Very pleasant stay. We stayed in room #3 which faces the back of the property. Very comfortable room, lots of light, one larger chair and then two small chairs around a round table in the corner. It was very quiet at night, however, you will hear the trains going through town at all hours. There is no a/c but you don’t need it. It was very comfortable to sleep at night. The owners (I only met Ruth) are very welcoming and accommodating. We stopped in at the last minute so were given a tour of this old schoolhouse and could pick the room we wanted. They have small refrigerators in the hall for guests to use and they had cookies and brownies sitting out in the evening. The free wi-fi was fast and reliable. The shower pressure was good. There are robes in the room for guest use. They also have a heated pool and hot tub, although we didn’t have a chance to use them. Breakfast begins at 8am – and it is absolutely delicious! Huckleberry French toast (with huckleberry syrup), hashbrown/potato casserole, sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, huckleberries), watermelon, cantaloupe, toast, muffins, yogurt – something for everyone! And it was all delicious. We went back for seconds and didn’t have to stop to eat lunch. We are so glad we stopped here.

Great rooms, reasonable rates, amazing views and a delicious breakfast. We were headed north and needed a place to crash, the casino hotel was full but the desk clerk called the Northside School B & B for us. They had a few rooms available to choose from, the proprietor let us see all of the empty ones. We chose the French Country room, but they were all very nicely decorated and would have been excellent choices.

We enjoyed a lovely moonrise on the communal deck, while sipping complimentary nightcaps and watching the local family of bats fly out of their coop. In the morning there was a fantastic breakfast with lots of standard fare, plus handmade jams and a delicious huckleberry french toast. We had a long drive ahead of us, so we didn't get a chance to really relax and enjoy the B & B, but we will definitely be back.
