Northside School Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed 3 August 2014

On our way to Banff my 2 sisters and I enjoyed this fabulous B&B! Ruth was very accommodating of our need to sleep 3 in a room. The relaxing ambiance was nice, the extra touches to have tea, cookies or a liqueur for evening was very nice. The breakfast was a class act with beautiful settings, excellent foods. Quiche, huckleberry stuffed French toast and homemade syrup, many fruits etc. Just plain delicious! I hope to return to this exceptional, reasonably priced gem.

Room Tip: They are charming and excellent.

We stayed at the Northside School on our journey from Banff to Spokane. Everything was very clean. Ruth, the owner, very friendly and a wonderful cook! The breakfast was delicious with many choices. She also has her homemade jellies, syrups, etc. for sale at a very low cost. Never heard a single train, which many people complained about in their reviews. We stayed in the room with a king bed and a claw foot tub - relaxing! Although I will probably never be back this way again, I would definitely stay again if I were to come back this way.

This is a beautifully converted elementary school, lovingly done by Ruth, who attended school here, and her husband. Each room has its own unique decor. The entire B&B is comfortable and welcoming, as are the hosts. The pool is heated and the jacuzzi was perfectly located to watch the hummingbirds on the feeders. Breakfast was sumptuous and first-rate. Our only complaint, and what kept us from rating it a solid 5, was the noise, which is conceded by the owners who provide complementary ear plugs in each room. Train noises are present but acceptable...part of the ambiance, but the noise from the other rooms was a bit off-putting. This was a most pleasant surprise and a great place to stay.

Room Tip: The southern rooms definitely hear the trains at night. Rooms on the north side may be quieter. Th...

My sister and law and I were on our way to Coure de Lane and need a place to stay to break up the trip. You will not be disappointed. Very affordable, clean and interesting!!! We even had a night cap provided, not to mention the yummy breakfast in the morning!!! We wanted a little bit of different outside ot the hotel/motel experience but did not want to pay silly prices. I loved the high ceilings and big windows.

The owners, Ruth and Gene Perry, converted a historic school into a charming bed and breakfast with nine rooms. The schoolhouse sits on a hillside and guests can walk a few steps for a lovely view of the Kootenai River. The "monkey" bars and other playground equipment still visible on the property made me feel like a kid again. An original chalkboard decorated the wall of a room called "The Principal's Office. Walking up the stairs reminded me of the school I attended as a child. Natural light flooded each bedroom and the lovely dining room. I enjoyed the historic pictures of the school and the old desks used as decor. The owners encouraged us to enjoy a nightcap on the deck overlooking the pool. It had been a hot day in Bonners Ferry, but we opened windows and turned on the ceiling fans and slept well in the comfortable queen bed. Ruth served a tasty breakfast of bacon, sausage and fresh fruit. I loved the french toast stuffed with huckleberries and cream cheese. Ruth provided a homemade huckleberry sauce that was so yummy!

Charming, Beautifully restored 1912 school house. All the rooms used to be classrooms, so they have giant, old-school windows. The wooden floors were refinished and schoolhouse antiques are placed throughout the building. We stayed in the very spacious Tuscany room. It was spotless and dust-free. Comfy bed. Beautiful view of the gardens. The breakfast was DELICIOUS - huckleberry stuffed French toast, egg soufflé, fresh berries, tasty coffee. The only criticism I have is that the owner was not very friendly. She was upset that we arrived early and was curt. The place is for sale. Under the right ownership this place would be a gem.
