“great place for a wedding”
Reviewed 17 September 2011

Our daughter got married at the Resort on Labor day weekend and it wonderful! The wedding planners are great! The Resort staff was courteous and helpful. Most of our guests made it a long weekend and we especially enjoyed the new pool and cabana. The guys had fun golfing. All the restaurants had great food.

Room Tip: Ask the reservation folks or at front desk - let them know what sort of room you would like.

My children and I spent 2 days at the CDA Resort this summer. We hiked Tubbs Hill and spent the day at the new golf course swimming area. The pool was amazing with an infinity falls and the food was fabulous! We walked the boardwalk and searched for Mudgy and Millie. The rooms are comfortable and relaxing and we layed in my king size bed and watched TV. My kids had their own room too. We will go back because we love it there.

The resort owns restaurants around the town. The food was great. We spent a few dollars on the boat cruise of the Coeur d'Alene lake. It was money well spent. There is also kayak rentals available as well as paddle boats.
Our beds were turned down each night with chocolate on the pillows.

Room Tip: The view from my room was ok but the view from my friend's room was absolutely beautiful. Ask f...

This hotel/resort cares about itself and its guests. It is well maintained, nicely appointed rooms, clean rooms and common areas and very comfortable. Travelling solo this week but will definately return with spouse for a romantic get away.

We had a wonderful stay at this place. Our first room wasn't as we had reserved....they worked very hard to get us the correct type of room - with a fireplace and wonderful view. The service personnel were very efficient, and the amenities were above average. I loved the little "leaf" soaps. If we ever get back to Idaho, we'll definitely return to this place.

We have been meaning to stay at this hotel since it opened in the 1980's and it probably would have been better to have gone back in its prime. There are many good things about this property, but the combination of high prices and self promotion about "world class" status can lead to disappointment.

Because my husband had to spend some time working on this trip, we booked a full suite with a separate living room. Or so we thought. The absolutely delightful reservationist recommended one of the top suites on the penthouse floor at a cost of $1,000/night. This was a splurge, but it sounded perfect. Unfortunately, the "living room" was a "living area", consisting of two upholstered chairs and a desk down a few stairs from the bed. The view was gorgeous, truly, but it didn't suit our specific needs. Lighting wasn't sufficient for reading at night. The design of the bathroom was odd, with the mini bar and all storage across from the vanity. The WC/shower room was long and narrow, with a walk of about 10 feet between the shower control and water....interesting to have to pace back and force to adjust the temperature. Around another corner in a separate section of the room was a large tub with view. A theme I have noted reading other reviews is that people are frequently disappointed with the room assigned and I'd suggest the hotel do a better job communicating details upfront.

Some of the mechanicals were not up to snuff. The A/C could not be controlled from our room and the system was noisy as it cycled on and off, so we wanted it shut down at night. In order to do this, we had to call down to engineering every evening so it could be turned off via the master control and then, every morning, we called again to get it turned on. One morning we asked for it to be switched on, but it wasn't done so we returned to a stifling room five hours later. The elevators were not working for a while on our departure day and one of the elevators didn't accept the code to take us to the top floor, so we always had to wait for the other of the two lifts.

The staff, with one exception, was delightful...very sweet and upbeat. Unfortunately, being nice and competent do not always go hand in hand and there does seem to be a mix of experienced professionals and seasonal help. I would not count on the concierge for anything complicated as our simple boat trip was booked and ticketed for the wrong day. It wasn't a big deal and she caught her mistake and called before we left, but if we hadn't gone back to our room we would have had to deal with it on the dock.

The restaurants varied in quality - we had a fabulous lunch at Beverly's and enjoyed breakfast at Dockside. Tito's was serviced challenged, to say the least. We had top notch massages at the spa, but the fitness center was below standard. A visit to the outdoor pool requires a boat shuttle, so we didn't use that facility. We would very much have enjoyed some time at the pool (the indoor pool does not look inviting in summer), but the need to travel back and forth on a schedule didn't appeal.

And now I'd like to comment on the soap. We travel frequently and know of many "green" initiatives, but the looming soap crisis was a new one. I have attached a picture of this donut shaped soap. This bar is irritating to hold and it quickly breaks into long, thin pieces. In terms of "green," while the center of the soap is eliminated, the box itself is large enough for a proper bar of soap, wasting cardboard. Further, the box is die cut (which certainly costs extra) and doesn't keep the bar clean for storage. People like to feel pampered when on vacation, particularly at supposed high end hotels. If there is such concern for the environment, just provide smaller bars. It is ridiculous that a small amenity like soap provides fuel for discussion after a stay.

In sum, this is an average hotel in a lovely location at a high price. It has a convention/wedding type of feel and it might be perfect for those purposes. I imagine that golfers would also enjoy this hotel. But this is by no means a 5 Star property, so lower your expectations and enjoy.

I stayed at The Coeur d'Alene Resort for a conference and absolutely enjoyed my trip. I stay in approximately 40 hotels a year on over 60 nights and this is definitely at the top of my list.

My one regret: NOT HITTING THE LINKS!! If you are a golfer and stay in the area, you HAVE to play the resort course, as I was told.

I was able to take a boat tour of part of the lake. Very nice! I would definitely stay here again, and next bring my wife.

FYI, the closest major air transportation is Spokane, Wa only 45 minutes away.
