This place is just a few blocks from downtown and so you can walk nearly anywhere. We stayed in room #1 which is large and beautiful with a private bath with a claw foot tub. Lots of large windows overlook the main street so even though the woodwork is dark, you still get plenty of light. Coffee in the room but no refrig - however you have full use of the refrig in the kitchen downstairs and they leave it stocked for you. Water bottles, wine, beer, fresh fruit, cheeses and more! Breakfast is included and you just help yourself to a continental "plus" breakfast. Cereals, fruit, yogurt, fresh made pastries, breads and jams and sliced meats as well as coffee, tea and juice. Staff is friendly and can offer ideas of things to see in the area. There is a great 3 mile hike on Tubbs Hill nearby as well as everything Coeur d'Alene has to offer! Bed is very comfortable and the decor of the entire house is beautiful. There is a pool table and basement theater room with shuffleboard. The negatives are few: it is an old house so you will hear people walking above you if you are not on the top floor. Room #1 is at the top of the stairs so you do hear people coming and going. As well, because you are on the front of the house, you hear the traffic noise outside. They use a lot of fabric softener so if you are sensitive to smells, the sheets and towels have a somewhat strong odor, though it is pleasant. None of these things would stop me from returning!

My husband and I visited Coeur d Alene June 15th, 2014 and we checked into Blackwell Hotel; a classic Victorian Accommodation; for two nights. Liz the manager offered us a warm welcome and walked us up and into our room #2 which was sizable for an old structure. This room has a lockable private bathroom just outside the room and posed no problem for us with privacy. Please know at time of booking I was aware that the bath was outside of the room. Most of the rooms have the bath within them two rooms in this B&B have baths outside adjacent to the room. Liz personally acquainted us with the amenities in our room and made us feel at home. Liz is well versed on the highlights of the area and at our request offered us guidance on the local places to enjoy supper.
The thing about B&B's is that they are all different. We have enjoyed many kinds of breakfasts at a number of B&B's and although the breakfast at the Blackwell Hotel was more simple then others we had visited it was tasty, nutritious and plentiful. We had choice of peak of freshness varied berries, with Greek yoghurt, cheeses and pastries as well as breakfast meat, (Canadian ham) There was juice and Liz brewed a terrific pot of fresh coffee.
The first floor was expansive with several sitting areas and two fireplaces. We were present during a cold spell in June and enjoyed the fire place as well as a glass of wine that was provided with some snacks after supper. There is artwork in the public areas from local artists for sale. It is tasteful and was the impetus for my husband and I to explore the common areas of the hotel making the visit even more interesting.
The house was very well maintained and extraordinarily clean. I walked about our room and in the hallway upstairs barefooted and was pleased on how clean the floors were.
The Blackwell Hotel is a fine B&B well managed and kept. We enjoyed our visit.

In terms of convenience and location, the Blackwell offered a good spot within an easy walk of the lake and downtown. The room was very decent as was the extensive first floor living room and breakfast area. However, when I arrived to breakfast, I only had the leftovers (no warm food, no croissants or other pastries, just granola, fruit, coffee and juice) and to my own devices.

Generally I like B&Bs specifically because of the meals you get--however, the breakfast was only one step above a Hampton Inn and for a much higher price. I also found the bathroom amenities to be fair.

Neverthless, my room was clean and comfortable. The service was decent although not spectacular. I do wonder about the other reviews here because their level of detail about the home is well surpassed mine and I'm surprised how they knew so much as a guest.

Room Tip: Second floor--not the top. Try lugging your bags up there!

Blackwell House isn't just for weddings! Though what a pristine place for a wedding, upscale accommodations reasonable priced. We felt welcome, my husband had pre-arranged flowers and a bottle of wine to be in our room, all was ready upon our arrival to celebrate 30 wonderful years. I'm so glad we didn't do a cookie cutter hotel room for our special get-away. The house and well kept flowering grounds were more than I expected. Our favorite coffee shop, Java on Sherman just relocated, right across from the Blackwell House, you really can have it all! Thank you Abby, we will recommend your place to anyone looking for a great location.

Room Tip: Room 1 really nice and big overlooking front yard trees and flag. Art from locals was well appointed...

We had a wonderful stay at the Blackwell Hotel. The house is beautifully furnished in a combination of old Victorian and modern style. The house is extremely clean. The staff is wonderful. We were treated like family and they were happy to help us with any request that we made. The breakfast was exactly what we wanted. Our stay could not have been better.

First time at a B&B...My wife and I were very impressed. The house itself is a beautiful old Victorian style home, while the furnishings inside lean more to a modern look that makes for a great look. The staff is very friendly and helpful if you need any advice on where to go and what to do. Our room was number 3 and I would highly recommend this room! The bed was amazing, the fireplace was a great amenity to the room and the shower in the bathroom was a massive shower with a rain fixture as well as your typical shower head. The breakfast was simple, healthy and delicious. Not to mention you are a short walk from downtown and a beautiful hiking trail called tubs hill. I would recommend this placed to anyone and everyone!

Room Tip: Room 3 was amazing! Well worth the money.

The AC out in our 3rd floor room (it was fine to us anyway) meant a free upgrade to the room of our choice, which was nice and cool. Beautiful furnishings and decor. Very accommodating staff. Generous and high quality breakfast items, including the best (homemade) croissants I've ever had. A pleasant stay in an excellently restored, early 1900's home.
Easy to find on a main street, yet still quiet.
We'd like to return with our children.
